Finally a wee update.
The paperwork for the car finally appeared.
I'd been told I was the 3rd owner but the 2nd being "in the trade" the car would be treated as a trade in and I would be the 2nd owner......
This turned out to be untrue in 2 directions.
First the "Trade in" option was unable to be used, no explanation given.
So the traditional method of "fill in the paperwork and send it off" was used. I received it back in my name and ........its had 4 previous.
I'm the 5th.
Annoying really as I was holding out fot a 2dr car and went for this because of the low ownership numbers.
Sigh!
Anyway having VLC to hand I enquired about getting it tested.
Next available date was in June. The 6th.
curse word That.
Rang them up and got placed on the priority list and got a text yesterday.
Test is next monday 8th.
So a quick assessment shows I need to repair a sagging headliner, replace the drivers side sun visor and rear view mirror (if I can find them in time), do a full oil/filters/plugs change.
I'm also pretty sure it'll need new tyres as the ones on it are a bit old even if in great condition with deep thread.
However I think I'd like to fit a bigger wheel/tyre combo so I don't know whether to leave well enough alone or do if afterwards.
Opinions appreciated.

Oil ,filters etc ordered. Replacement sun-visor on the way. Spray glue for head-liner purchased. I (hope think I've found a mirror but if all else fails I'll buy a poundshop suction one for the test. And after much labour and dumping etc, a space nearly big enough to drive it in to my very untidy shed has happened. To the point I can see my MK1 Escort Estate. Somewhat.... These were spotted a few weeks back. Not the normal yard art.   |

Hopefully it wasn't on anything too serious? Couldnt/Would'nt test it fully as it had an exhaust leak at a slip joint! And the headliner is loose. Retest set for 3 weeks time. Thanks. |

Next time someone moans about their car failing a MOT I’m going to show them this. Exhaust sounds like an advisory and headliner isn’t even part of the test 😂. At least they are both fairly easy to sort out. I assume the partial test didn’t show up any other major issues?
Shame about the mk2, looks like a two door as well 😢

He moved the sunvisor that has to be moved "just so" while driving it in.
But he didnt know that "just so" was necessary and it fell off taking the piece of headliner it was holding up, with it.
Fail....
Then he started the mechanical, which is sitting in the car checking what can be, and they were all fine.
Went to do the emmissions and it "couldnt" be done (the leak) so the NCT was abandoned.

The Mk2 was a "spare" shell for a man that used to rally.
He still owns the Mk2 rally car but hasnt used it in decades and says he never will.
But in his words "its there a long time costing me nothing".

Glad to see you're getting plenty of use out of the car. The NCT really is a great example of a private company hitting targets disguised as a road compliance test. In my own experience it's all down to the individual on the day. Hope you get it through or perhaps you have already?

Well it was re-tested.
Needs one disc, one cv same side
Both front springs are broken and two drain holes are rusty and need fixing.

So. A week ago the alarm decided to reactivate after god knows how long. Every time a door etc opened away it went. I cable tied the driver's door (your door is open) switch, closed, to allow me to move it. Auto leccy has it a week. Some of the units at the Sanctuary location are Area 51 ish These are parked there. Not allowed to photograph the rest. These include Ae86's, Imprezzas, 1jz powered e36, legacy multi letter/number WRX sti b24??? designated twin turbo, BMW 530d with huge Garrett turbo etc. Fun!       |
