It has dried well. I've taken the top off with some 60-grit so only the indentations are filled and large areas smoothed. Will put on another coat shortly.
It is tough stuff, much harder than body filler or any sort of paint I've used before. It's pretty good, I can imagine using it in other projects, perhaps even household stuff like waterproofing external walls or whatever.

Decided x4 coats of gelcoat would be enough. Sanded it down to 120 grit and applied first coat of high build primer. Will sand this back to the point where we get the plastic kind of smoothness I'm trying to achieve. I'm willing to put on more primer if required. Maybe 2 or 3 coats if necessary. Then 600 grit wet sanding before moving to final top coat. Found an example on eBay, which is typical as before I started this none were available. This one is advertised at £500 with a couple of small cracks. So still not ideal and quite expensive. Gives an idea of where we're heading though.

First coat of primer rubbed back to 600grit. I'll do another one or two coats.

Opened up the holes for the 3 warning lights which go along the top. After so many coatings of various products there had been drippage into those holes which was making them smaller and oddly shaped. Also applied what I hope is the final (3rd) coat of primer. Probably spending longer than necessary on this job but I want it to look 'factory' and not bodged. For the record, around the instrument openings was actually pretty rough on the original job so I'm probably exceeding factory standard by this stage.

First coat of silver. Will aim for 2 or 3 coats of this. It's looking good enough I think. Fingers crossed it stays crack free for a while!
