A couple of easy fixes were completed, nothing exciting. I accidentally pulled the switch for the leds out when we were away, finding it didn't have any spade connectors and was just wrapped around the terminals on the switch. Fixed with correct connectors.. Heater stuck on hot. Cable intact and when the valve is closed by hand, cold air returns until you move the heater control again. Think the cable might need pulling though a bit? Temporary fix = pull over, open bonnet, close valve

The recirc air function is also non operation. Quick poke around revealed the vacuum pipe has snapped. On the to list. Quick fix = "Oh look I can see smoke" Hold your breath, drive past. Breathe again

When I bought the van, the windscreen washer jets only worked on the drivers side. With some lost mojo due to the rain and not been able to finish the inner wing I thought an easy job would help matters. Quick Google revealed I could get a replacement jet for a fiver or so. Great. To remove the grill that houses the jets, remove three screws along the bottom. Carefully prise the lower RH corner until it pops of. At this point put a towel or something similar down to protect the paint. Repeat process on LH side and then the grill comes off. So there be wires under ere! Heated jets, unexpected luxury. Also, 65 quid to replace. Removed pipes, cleared blockage. Jet still blocked. Unplugged and removed it. The jets are metal. There's a plastic 90 degree elbow where the water pipe connects. After much poking with a needle still no joy. Soaked in white vinegar overnight. Bit more prodding. Remember to blow not suck! 20 odd year old sludge tastes grim, but it did do the trick. Bit more prodding resulted in air now passing though. Fitted back up to the van and now have a working jet. 65 saved to put towards the rust fund!

I had one of these, fantastic vans. It used to return a genuine 38 mpg. Brilliant for a 2.5 5 cylinder engine. Common faults are the wiring breaking in the loom this causes intermittent limp home mode escapades. My current VW T6 2016 suffered the same fault! The front exhaust pipe rotted out on mine, it has a cat in it. I swapped it out for the 2.4 front pipe, exactly the same but no cat, significantly cheaper, the difference to performance and economy was quite noticeable. I sold mine at 478,000 miles and it was mechanically strong, this I put down to the very regular oil changes. Get the rear brakes in pieces before the winter and clean and lubricate. If you don't you'll be into rear calipers in the next year or two. Enjoy, I did

This one is side piped with no cat. I've got the OG exhaust. Not sure if it'll be an MOT issue. Gunna do the oil as I used to, every 6k. Thanks for the rear brake tip. It needs the front ball joints doing so I'll get to it then

On a slightly off topic tangent...
The daily suffered some rodent damage last winter to the coil pack wiring. The also ate Peppa pigs legs and half pack of Bensons out the glove box.
When the roads get salted, I'll keep use down to dry days but regular enough to keep everything moving/charged.
Some research suggests tumble dryer sheets are a good detereent. My god do they stink and the van now smells like a B&M shoppers dream. Let's see if they work!

I used to have late swb Caravelle T4. It was a 2.5 tdi and I was amazed by the economy when I went to Ireland in the summer. Mine was the 88bhp variant. I never got round to putting the Pajero intercooler on it before I sold it; although I fitted the 102 Bosch injectors, decat & sidepipe and a remap - it went really well!

Yeah it's surprisingly good on juice. It's the intercooler so I think 102bhp? Remapped, de-cat and side exit. Was looking at doing the EGR but it looks like someone has already pulled the vac hose. I'll investigate further as I don't want to lose the antishudder valve.

When I bought the van, the horn didn't work. It still doesn't now.. There's an aftermarket wheel currently fitted. So I'll try the original wheel and see if I get the horn back. Obviously I need to investigate further.
The original wheel came with the van but the top of the wheel was twisting freely when gripped.
Cleaned it up first. The rubber is crumbly and falling to bits so a cover is in order, going to get the leather ordered and hand stitch it.
Drilled some holes in the back of the wheel and injected 5 min epoxy in the top. It's worked perfectly, no more twisty wheel.

The steering wheel on my T4 Caravelle is the same. I was looking for a replacement but I think I'll try your trick. Thank you for the write up.

The steering wheel on my T4 Caravelle is the same. I was looking for a replacement but I think I'll try your trick. Thank you for the write up. Glad it'll help Drill small holes at rear of steering wheel (for glue to run out of) Drill slightly larger holes across the top of the wheel (5 or 6 depending how loose it is) Get a syringe, remove needle. Fill with 5 min epoxy Inject in to holes along the top, twisting the wheel as you do. Clean off excess Leave to dry No more twisty wheel There's the leather stitch in covers on ebay so I'll report back when the other half has sewed everything on.

the Heater controls is almost certainly busted gears on the cab end of the controls. this is a classic T4 issue. I had a 1.9 TDi converted 800 Special (as per my profile pic), but sold it about 5 years ago in order to get a Crafter MWB, because I wanted to be able to stand up to out my trousers on.

I thought you said no to #vanlife pictures Cool van, nearly just bought one with the same spec from a mate. Couldn’t afford the rust repairs around the windscreen though so ended up getting an old 530i instead.
