Thought I ought to update this a bit. After I'd finished sulking, I decided if I had to take a modern mini on the L2B that it better be clean so a few hours later I was left with this sitting beside mine all poorly.
This threw an EML the day before we left for London so a quick stop at the dealers on route and a new sensor and we were on the way.
So the Monday after we returned I cracked straight on with getting mine sorted. Engine out
Head off revealed far less damage that expected. Can just make out a mark in cylinder two (from right to left). The piston was bad though one ring destroyed and a nice crack in the side. Definitely from it detonating when the vacuum had a wobble and advanced it far too much.
It quickly went from this
And split to this
All split down I loaded up the trusty daily barge and took the block and head off to engine hospital aka the place where my tracking was setup. These guys build race engines everyday so couldn't go to a better place. It is still with them now and hopefully a light hone and 4 new turbo pistons will get her sorted and the compression ratio down to the right level.
It's not all bad news as the engine out meant I could touch up my subframe where brake fluid had initially leaked and stripped it.
