Big silly grin here. Nice work. I’m glad to see someone is enjoying seeing my stupid ideas coming to life. I’m certainly getting some enjoyment out of it.

Getting the plates aligned and welded up. so i know that the two towers that i have welded in are both in the exact same spot so i am basing the alignment of both top plates from this, using a bar across the pair. I measured off the most forward edge of the bar, knowing that if i get my measurements the same either side they will be symmetrical.

Didn't pinch that sign i hope! No this is the one that lodged itself into the subframe on the ibiza, so id say the sign found me and I'm defiantly not at fault.

So the next step is notching for the drive shafts, I did this using a 64mm hole saw and then plated the inside using 1.5mm mild steel plate and a coat of stone chip. this is welded on both the inside and outside.

on a separate note, i am looking for a single or preferably two retrorides weekender camping tickets, i failed at buying myself one this year as i didn't get on and do it while they were still available. if I can get one I will defiantly be bringing the beetle.

so my reasoning for not doing this is i think i can gain considerably more adjustment using the mk7 strut tops. Is this still a thing? How's the project going!

How's the project going! don't worry its still a thing, life very much made me forget to continue updating this build thread. However having been to the weekender last weekend its somewhat reminded me that i was actually enjoying updating this and i should carry on doing so, even if it is all past tense now as I drove the car several times last year.

so the next step was to remove the anti roll bar, I would both no longer be able to use it because of its design or really require it because of the spring stiffness that I had for the car. As you can see by the photographs i had already cut the ends off, prom this point all i had to do was cut it in the center and pull both halves out.

The next step was to finish welding the top mounts, as i mentioned and pictured above I had already welded the outside everywhere that i could get to, this was also everywhere that was visible. I went around the inside in a similar fashion, making sure to get the areas that i had not been able to on the top while also leaving space for the top mount to sit as far in as possible.
This was then followed up by a quick paintjob. I had intended to have some paint mixed up to match the body however I had runout of time as at this point I was still quite adamant I would make it to the 2023 retro rides weekender (this evidently did not happen) so i used what i had on the shelf. A can of "wheel silver" which seamed to be near perfect match.

I had done all of the above with the car up on my axle stands so it was time to get it back on the ground and see how it would sit, I knew that this would only be a rough guide as i still didn't have tires on the Boyds or intend to put the front wings back on if I didn't have to, as its quite a hassle. this was the point that i realized quite how close the fitment was going to be to both the outer arch and the inside of the arch. I had already taken out the arch liners as I knew they would be in the way however I found i was very very close to the top of the front tub, as pictured.
