I've recently dropped the tank on my fiat 850t and to my surprise there was this inside It's at least five years old and heavily contaminated. Whats the best way to dispose of it?

usualy places that take waste oil will take it or at least they used to (i have the advantage of working somewhre where we have waste oil and fuel disposal tanks if i need to get rid of anything, so been a while since i went to a council recycling center with any)
That said I tend to keep contaminated fuel for degreasing stuff but.. usual disclamers on using gasoline for that and storing it apply.

I refer to my old fuel as "Dip" after Who Framed Roger Rabbit and use it for cleaning as well.

Burn it in a bucket of sand (and potentially cook yourself a feed on it like our soldiers did in the desert)? Heavily dilute it with fresh petrol and use it in something else (maybe strain it through a rag first)?

Pour a small amount into a tray. Wait until it evaporates, repeat until it's all gone.
(Obviously put the tray somewhere safe. )
But I'd use it for cleaning stuff as above.

When I had some old foul smelling stuff to get rid of I waited till a hot day and poured it a pint a time over a patch of old concrete we have, it evaporated off within a few minutes.

I go to my local tip. They have a 1000 litre container. Not all the tips will take petrol or diesel. In mine its banned. In fact their web page states that no recycling facility will take it any more. Check on your local tip web site to make sure.

A garden chemical is petrol for a brush cutter, chainsaw, mower, or ride on mower surely? 👀

I always think it's funny when local councils get all picky over what they will and won't accept.
Anything they won't accept will be disposed of somewhere else. What do they think you're going to do with said waste... put it in your living room and admire it?

I store a 20 Litre drum until its full & thrn go & empty at the tip a few times a year.

What happens around here is people dump their rubbish in hedges/ditches/gateways and then the council have to go and clean it up. Being picky/charging a fortune at tips backfires on them.

And where does it go when council picks it up? The same dump that wouldn't take it in the first place?
