I don't think the Shitroên Ami (or its twin Opel Rocks-E) or the Renault Tweezy or the Microlino are allowed to be used on dutch bycicle paths.

I realized that Waayenberg is unique in being a Dutch car manufacturer that still exists. Any other Dutch car manufacturer eventually bit the dust. Currently, there is light year one, a solar/electric car, which might be successful, but otherwise, Waayenberg is it. Donkervoort still exists (a modernized Lotus 7, like Caterham), but this is very low production. Being Dutch, and working in the automotive industry, I was always very aware of this fact and ran away from my country as soon as I finished Uni. Here's the Canta in grip & slip, and a bit about the factory:

Being out of production for as long as the LX model has been, and the Mk2 focussing against all the new micro type cars out there, I guess there is little interest from any angle really in these. Though they do seem to have a following, and retain strong money in the used market. I suspect The type of people who use them are not Forum types and also often incapable of maintenance, so garages would be looking after their cars as long as they lasted. Even my bunch of YouTube videos so far will not be of interest to 99% of Canta users in the Netherlands. Only cantalxnugget has found his way here, ass an owner of a Canta LX. Still, happy to learn from others, whatever they share.

Sometimes the little things in life can get you down, like the weather screwing up days off work…. Then sometimes the little things in life can make a huge difference. Like a remote body microphone to use while recording on my phone for the YouTube channel. I am aware that often, walking toward, or working with my back to the camera, the sound fades, more than it should. Yesterday, rain was a problem, though I was actually working….. But the Amazon guy/girl/whatever had delivered an envelope some time early, really early. So I found an envelope addressed to craigrk in the porch, texted a pic and said he had a parcel 200 miles from home at my place….. No, it is for you, came the reply. So I finished my breakfast and opened the parcel. Bloody brilliant. iPhone remote Bluetooth clip on microphone. This could be a game changer (less swearing under my breath I guess) Will test it out when I work on the Canta next. Anyone use one before? Weather changed again later, but in between…… a nice optimistic pic. Almost the weekend……

If the original engine is knackered then yes, a slighty more powerful bolt-in replacement would be the way I would look to go. Somewhere around the 15-20hp mark would be about right I woud think to give more than adequate performance in something so basic, without turning it into (more of) a deathtrap. If the original engine is ok though, I'd leave well alone for the time being and concentrate on getting it back on the road first.

Same here, it's already got an engine getting on for twice the capacity of the standard one which has ripped an engine mount out of the chassis, if that works concentrate on getting it to drive better some decent wheels and a fun paint job, any weight you can get out would help too.

Still raining here. Good news today… Well, actually double good news. The V5c got issued a week ago, and the document landed today. What has me really pleased is the fact that is has a registration with a PLG rating. PLG is Private Light Goods for those not in the UK. This means a regular car with access to all roads. Also means I do not need to change it from Disabled class to PLG. It was then obviously used as a regular motor vehicle before when imported into the UK. Wish I could find out more about its history. INTERESTING. Looking at the DVLA (DMV) website it shows that if registered before 01 March 2001 the road tax is £200.00 per year, not cheap as a motorcycle of the same capacity, but less than a newer vehicle. This is a 2000 model, that was registered in the UK in February 2001. Also, the registration documents show that I am the second registered owner. For some people this is also important, I really don’t care. The abuse this has had, shows that one registered owner means very little. I need to SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) this online so that no taxes can be raised agains the car. Onwards as my friend Paul Y always says. More tomorrow.

PS. Now we can start working on this car. Without fear of losing the investment. I also found this bit of information…….. Different speeds for different countries. Including the UK. Town car then. Anyone for a drag race? That is, drag it along. .

70kph is a whisker under 44mph. Plenty fast enough I’d suggest, certainly for a town runabout.

Trying to SORN the Canta LX which I received the V5C for this week. Screenshots below. The online SORN service seems to be going around in circles….. It demands the 16 digit reminder document number. When you state only V5C in possession, it then allows you the selection and comes back to the start, asking for the 16 digit reminder number, rather than the V5C reference number. Any advice? Surely it cannot be that difficult to do. Thank you.

I was surprised the Germans hit it with a 25km/h restriction. Being german I'm not that surprised. With that 25km/h speed limit they fall into the same category like so called mofas, that's "bikes with aided suspension" (or something like that), wheather e-bikes (pedelecs) or two-strokers. They are tax free, TÜV free and You buy an annual insurance license plate straight from Your insurance agent for something like 100€s. In the past You could see regular cars like old pandas occasionally, that were limited to only two gears and 25km/h top speed with those insurance plates and a big 25 sticker at the back. But they were quite unpopular and always annoying since they used the road, other than those 25 two wheelers that were allowed (or demanded) to use the cycle path. With the same plate You can also insure a scooter that is allowed to do 45km/h legally (and remove the limiter ring from the ctv auto box quite easily and drive faster illegally) for use on the road, not the bike path. And the modern shitroên ami is also allowed to do 45km/h. Maybe today the Canta would be allowed to do 45km/h, too. But nothing more. So I'm only a little surprised about the 25km/h.
