I'd love to have my own custom body made up using the basic shape/profile of the centaur but round it off and improve it in places. I love the side profile!

I always wondered what car that was... I assumed it was one of those VW Beetle-based things I forget the name of now. I like the car. It's a bit ugly (...OK a lot ugly) but with a few tweaks it'd be cool I reckon. And since one featured in one of my favourite films of all time, I like it even more! I want one so that I can fill it with my Droogs and go about the place wreaking havoc! (or maybe just nip to the shops in it on a dry Sunday...)

Ah yes, the Nova. Yea I wrongly assumed it was one of those. Next time I watch the film I might engage full-on Geek Mode and take a note of the registration and run it on the DVLA database to see what's happened to it! ;D Sounds like your dad had a cool job!

(or maybe just nip to the shops in it on a dry Sunday...)
Hope you don't intend to buy much, it's a bit snug in there!! You can always put a roofbox on though.... say if you needed to take camping gear to Paddock Wood for Imp National! I believe Roger (the owner) won "used and abused" (the car- not the owner!) too! (Pic courtesy of Bazzateer- he won't mind )

I'm trying to figure out if it's got potential....half of me says "yes, it's just really well hidden" and the other says "not without a rebodying with something not as daft looking".

Another imp based thing here with potential. The "Imperator GTS". This one I guess is a bit different because it's a 1 (or 2) off. imps4ever.info/specials/imperator.htmlGorgeous front end IMO but that back end just ruins it I believe that recently it was sold via the Imp Club Forum (Sorry Graham, thought the RRers might like to see it but not sure it's worth a new thread)

I do, vaguely, remember these when they were current. I have to say that, TBH, it gives me a giggle to read how ugly or bad it actually is etc, etc. This car was designed on the back of a Fag packet to an idea of how sports cars would look in the year 2000. It is the epitome of Retro, a design of its time. Find a clip of Rhubarb and Custard, the Banana Splits, take another look at Life on Mars and then have another look at this Automotive disaster and see just how bloody quaint and fabulous it really is compared to a world of boring, boring Euro boxes. Superb!!

The Centaur is based on the moulds to the Probe 15. The Probe 15 was designed by the Adams brothers as a concept, and the 15 being its height... 15inches! The Centaur is wider and taller (not by much).
As someone rightly said, they developed the car into the bigger Probe (Probe 2001 with an Austin Lancrab engine midmounted) that was used in the Clockwork Orange, plus an even bigger one with a V8 in it that never moved. The project was shelved after a nasty accident involving the electrically tipping seats malfunctioning and a young lady's head going through the sliding glass roof on an A-road without the roof opening first....
Probe 15 was really pretty - sadly the original has been hideously modified using a Bond Equipe roof to replace the cool sliding sunroof/door.
The Centaur is IMHO a bizzarre looking creation that is about as retro as you can get. I mean, its like one of those mad late 60s concept cars we all go 'wow' about, but someone actually made it. Yes, its ugly - but its truly amazing looking and a true period piece. Having been to a kit car show with a Centaur being parked next to a Nova (another wacky old thing if I ever saw one), more people were interested in the Centaur...
I'd love one, but sadly rarity (and as usual deep pockets and long arms) mean I am Centaur-less.
Tim<Sadly, a bit of a Centaur/Probe anorak>

Just cos something is good for you doesn't mean its good for everyone - for example Marmite does not make good Dog Food.
