Hello,
I have a 3.5 v8 full rebuild skimmed block and heads. So my question is, how do you set up the preload and adjustable pushrods? As I've tried following information online and my preload is set to 40 though, but near the back of the right cylinder bank, there's a tapping i cannot get rid of. All parts are new.
Thanks

I cant answer directly for the Rover V8, but Chrysler BB with hydraulic followers and adjustable pushrods would be a similar process. Basically if you are confident that you have set the preload (40 thou) and when checking, none of the pushrods are loose when the cam is on the heel(as a basic check..ideally you verify using a dial test indicator) then the ticking isn't the pushrods. Do double check tho as it can cause catastrophic damage if you don't have any preload when the rod pops out of the follower or the lifter is smacking against its top travel limit every time...
Are you 100% sure its the lifter? The exhaust headers can leak and the tick it makes can sound like its a cam/top of engine tick? You can check this a few ways...easiest Ive found is a length of hose up to the ear and move to around the exhaust ports. Alternatively get some tissue paper in a flexi-grabber-claw thing and wave it around the general area of the exhaust gasket and if the paper moves you've found your leak.

In case it helps james ,
on my tvr , i made a little hooked rod , it had a flat hook which was the pre load thickness, i then held that against the ledge at the top of the lifter inside , and wound the pushrod end up until the hook slid in the gap that appears as the pushrod pushes down the center piston in the lifter .
hope that makes sense!
