Hi Everybody,
Looking for some help and advise on rust removal and protection on some recycled horseshoe stuff we've been doing:
So for some background as part of a local group the boy and I have been making some horseshoe art and selling it in aid of the local food bank. We've done well, the boy has got support from the Lions Club etc. but the main thing is that sale of Christmas Reindeer in the last 2 years has raised over £1700.
Now the local market for Reindeer is clearly drying up so we are moving towards making wreaths:
These are less intensive to make in terms of chopping up and design but do need to be cleaner to look good.
One thought is to try and clean the shoes in citric before having to just flapwheel the weld points - can any of you lovely people advise how you have got on with citric ? Concentrations, where to buy etc. any recommendations you might have.
Second thought is to try and protect the finished works with Owatrol oil - would this work ? even inside after being polished by a knot wheel of truth (TM to Paul Y) things are going rusty.
Painting them might be an option but on the Reindeer it took as long to clean and paint as it did to weld up so if Owatrol oil might be good could people share their experiences.
Thanks in advance
James
