I have bought a car and it has a 20L "rsce" tank in the boot fully mounted and with a hole and ventilation to under the car, how legal is this?
( car has a current mot but I don't know what was fitted st time of MOT)

No probs. Whist asking the question is all good, no issue with that at all, having people aware of the availability of the manual is something that we as a community should share around big time as it’s a great resource. 🙂

The legal standpoint from the BIVA manual is it's ok in the boot providing;
The filler cap is outside of the boot (you can fill it with the boot closed) There is a fireproof bulkhead between the boot and the passenger compartment (sheet of steel or ally) which allegedly should be airtight to prevent fumes getting into the passenger area.
Not sure on Construction & use regs though.

Loads of cars used to have them in the boot, escorts, jags, elans, minis, heralds etc etc most with no firewall so as long as its vented outside and there are no leaks I can't see it being a MOT issue.

I look after a couple of rally cars which have to be Mot'd, both have a fuel cell in the boot with modified floors. Both have the fuel caps inside the boot,not an issue for the mot as long as it's secure and doesn't leak.
