I found this volt meter hidden away in my dads old garage today and out of curiosity I wondered if anyone out there has seen something like this before? No idea of age or exactly what it would have been used for as it only goes up to 6v. It’s about the same size as a pocket watch. It still works! I will be giving it a good clean and hope there are some identifying marks on it.

I have one of those somewhere in my shed, it was my Old Man’s.

It could have been used for measuring individual battery cells of which the connectors were exposed hence the spike on the bottom of the case would be pushed with the wire connected to the next cell. Two volts per cell most early car batteries were 6 volt. A great thing to have and a piece of history.

You mind find it here LINKYThank you so much for this, very useful. This makes me think that perhaps the volt meter would have belonged to my grandfather, not necessarily relating to the Forces but I know his main hobby was making gramophones, radios and speakers so I can imagine him using it for this. Yet to give it a good clean yet and hope that there will be some markings that relate to the website. 👍
