Think I pay BOC £55 a year for a under the Volkszone scheme Well I could have saved myself a bucketload of money! It was (and still is) a good deal but the newer players in the market (adams and hobby weld) are cost effective for low usage - when I was doing a lot of welding (restoration of a mini and keeping fizzy Opels solid ) it made sense

I’m using Adams Gas. Have been for a few years. I was using Air Products prior to Adams.
I am fortunate enough to have a local supplier just up the road from me, really nice guy as well. Drop him a text when I need some gas, or anything welding related really, regulators, fittings smaller bits and pieces and he is always bang on with the help and usually pretty quick as well. Most of the time he drops past when I need things and drops them in with no delivery cost which is great.
If you contact Adams Gas they will put you in touch with your regional supplier and you just go from there really.

We use Argoshield light, with the BOC Volkszone deal. The key thing is practise, practise, practise before you start on the car. Join migwelding.co.uk forum and read their guides. Lots of photos on there to give you an idea of what your welds should look like.
In addition to the specialist stuff already mentioned like a regulator and gas flow meter, good old Aldi and Lidl can be good sources of stuff like welding helmets and anti-spatter spray. Buy a cheap fire blanket from ebay to cover the bodywork when you're welding the car. If you are welding wheel arches or underneath a cheap worklamp (Screwfix/Toolstation) is worth buying.
I would highly recommend a powerfile (Black and Decker ones are about £40) to remove paint, rust, and dress down the welds. Get the blue zirconia belts in a few different grits from ebay.
It might seem like a lot money to get started but things like a powerfile make life a lot easier. If you have a lot of welding to do you will still be saving a fortune over what a garage or mobile welder would charge.
When you start on the car, start on the bits noone will see - by the time you come to do the visible bits you'll be a much better welder.
