The morris was replaced in 1978 when Len got a 1978 escort van and i bet he was happy with the upgrade as the austin would have been so dated by then. Len left the dog section after 17 years of service and joined CID until he retired in 1989

I had a great message about decoding FOXTROT ZULU 2. Essex police vehicle radio call signs were made up of a combination of 2 letters and 2 numbers. The first letter would identify the home division the vehicle belonged in. The 2nd would identify what type of resource the vehicle was and then the numbers would identify it more. So FZ02 was a Grays (F= Grays B= Basildon, H= Southend, C= Chelmsford, E= Colchester, G=Harlow) Then for the 2nd letter Z= dog unit, A= area car, C= CID, K= personnel carrier. 3rd & 4th digits can be used to differentiate between two vehicles of the same type. (The 1st digit was also used to identify the vehicles home station). There were 2 dog vans per division at that time so Grays would’ve been covered by FZ02 & FZ03
