If that is your saddle height on the Marin then its several sizes too big for you! I'd been messing with the tilt and height when that was taken, it's a bit higher now. Still can't get the tilt quite right though. The unicycle I bought and sold was delivered last night. My mates son had never been on one but nailed it within 45 mins. Very satisfying to watch him go from nothing to mildly competent so quickly, made it well worth buying.

Saddles should always be horizontal, if it doesn't feel right get shopping for one that does.

Cheers, I've set the seat horizontal now, I'll see what it's like next time I take it out. I think it may have been angled back slightly when I took it out last week. If all else fails I'll swap it with the giant seat, that things like a marshmallow lol Important update today. Shiny bits. I bought some handlebar end caps and some crank caps mainly because the originals were rubbish, knackered or missing. First the end caps Originals were black plastic and well beaten I bought some fancy alloy ones, the red ones match the paint perfectly but look like red spots, which is basicly what they are. Not as good as I thought. I also got some silver ones which were the safe option, and they look much better. Then the crank caps. The originals were the naffest plastic things ever, and one was missing So replaced it with 2 nice polished silver ones. Happy with that. More shiny bits on their way. Plan this weekend is to ride the marin somewhere if it stays dry, probably across the local countryside until I get lost.

Another small and shiny update, this time on the marin. Took it out on Saturday, did about 4 miles to the tip and through a local park. Got to the tip and was told we wernt allowed in on bikes (ya know, the one I got FROM said tip in an effort to be green and healthy and stuff) so got off the bike and was told we still wernt allowed in, so I figured I'd just carry on walking until someone stopped me. They didn't. Anyway there wasn't much of interest in the shop so continued to the common, it rained heavily which I was not prepared for at all, waited under some trees, then continued and got very muddy and slid all over the place on my fancy road tyres. Had some chips, then it rained again and I went home. Wet. Very wet. Have a view When I got home I decided to do the shiny stuff and polished the handlebars Before They were dull, scratched and had minor corrosion here and there. The gear/brake assembly had scratches all over it too. Didn't think to take pics of that beforehand so use ur imagination. The bars are shiny now but the camera doesn't seem to show it very well I went over them with 800 wet/dry, then 1200 and lastly some Belgom alu polish. There are afew pits in the surface but it's got a mirror-like shine. The gear/brake assy has also been given some paint on the scratched areas, needs another coat, I'm just using rustins satin wood/metal paint for that with a brush. Saves having to do it outside and gives a great finnish if used correctly.

This week I've been having a go at tidying up the handlebars on the marin, I guess it's the first part of the restoration. Rubbish zoomed in pic but started like this Dull bars, scratches on the black part of the brake/gear unit, bars almost punched a hole in the end of the grips. Ended with this Polished bars and levers , painted the scratched areas and cut the end of the grips off a stuck an end cap in there. I'd like new grips for it as they are hard rubber, but slightly tapered and a decent shape. The grip world is vast and choosing is not straightforward. I'd like slightly contoured but not full on ergonomic. These will do for now.

They seem to be the standard for alot of people, soft and grippy but to me they feel abit weird, and I've tried mildly contoured grips and find I prefer them. Top of my list at the moment are sram foam grips like these Yesterday I received some bits on my doormat, handlebar mount thingies, so I could mount my light a bit lower than the handlebars. I also brush painted the gear selector covers a darker grey with model paint. Helps to tone them down abit. The dials were touched up abit with silver which by luck was a perfect match The small light to the left was the first one I bought, great as a marker light but absolutely useless for actually being able to see anything. Decided to get another and had a result because the one that was better than the I wanted had been reduced in price. So I bought the crazy one instead. See 800 lumens is more than enough.

Also a fan of foams, used to use stick on foams for my fixie.
Modern LED's are a fun thing, just point it away from drivers eyes!

Noo I want the bastards to see me! 800 lumens really isn't much these days, especially if it rains a bit, and there's oncoming traffic, I could not see much with my 900 lumen light last night for a few minutes..

The 800 will be plenty for me tho I've seen more powerful ones out there I don't plan to use the bike in the dark much, certainly not in the rain, it's only for pleasure. I noticed this morning that our works bike, a legendary pashley pronto has got shram grips. They're rubber but a similer shape to the foams. The shape works for me so that's what in getting.

The marins looking alot tidier now. Removed all stickers and repainted the forks and any other bits that had chips or scratches. Cleaned and detailed the pedals too. I plan to give it a proper polish soon but I'm happy with how it looks for now. Also the forks might need rebuilding or replacing, but apart from that it rides and operates perfectly now. For some reason the front view made me think of Johnny 5, now I can't not see it.

Not much of an update on the bikes other than went on a total mission of a ride today, I expect to be thoroughly broken tomorrow. Havnt yet worked out how far I went but it was a mixture of on road, off road, muddy paths and random patches of sand. Nice tho. Have a view And another one. But this. This more than justifies the state of my legs And a nice pic of my bike being a poser

Thankfully none of my route was that muddy, good chunky job you've got chunky tyres. I'm considering putting the giants tyres on the marin, the marins are dangerous on wet grass and useless on any mud. If I'dve seen the sort of bog you rode through I'd probably just stopped lol. Looked like fun. I worked out I did almost 10 miles yesterday. Next time I'll take a slightly easier route and try to go a bit further. And not stop at the pub halfway and get burger and chips. It was an amazing burger and chips though. Yesterday I found my carbon vinyl and had a quick go at cutting some letters out If I had another go and took abit more time to draw it and cut with a new blade it might look better but I'll probably just buy some.

Received my sram foam grips today. So much better than the original uncomfortably grippy solid rubber ones. The foam is firm but not hard, and the contoured shape makes them feel extremely comfortable. The rubber ones are going in the bin. I've found a bit of a problem. The marins got 2 bottle holders but I've only got one bottle, so needed another one. I've narrowed it down to two. Not a choice I was expecting. 🤣

If you’re off-roading or doing muddy/dusty trails, consider a bidon with a cover over the spout! I really like the Fly 550 and they do one with a flip-up cover over the top.

Thanks, the cover would've been handy but I'd already bought the cube ones before I read that. Didn't even think about getting one with a cover🤦 Not much of an update due to the weather being biblical. Really lucky I went out when I did, it was perfect weather all day, since then it all gone wonky. I decided to do a bit more work to it instead, shiny work. After I'd polished bits of it I though about painting it. Spraying it would mean a full strip down which I wasn't planning on, so I thought about brush painting it. At first brush painting seemed like a stupid idea, so I opened a tin of revell finest dark grey matt and started. I know I can get a good finnish and the matt colours cover really well. I managed to do one coat with what I had, will need another tin or 2 to finnish. I can't take a decent pic of the whole thing indoors, and it looks awful with one coat anyway, but here's a bit of it Also I've found out a bit more about the frame, mainly from this that someone posted up on the bikes forum. A really nice thing to see, seems I've got quite a nice bike🙂

Decided to service the shocks today as they didn't feel great. Had a game getting them apart but once they did the spring came out with a pile of slimy rust. Won't be riding it again until its got new shocks
