It’s running an mx5 mk1 1.8 engine and box.
All home brewed, cobbled together on a budget.
I wanted the bulldog type of stance with wheels filling the arches as much as possible.
But useable and friendly to live with.

😂😂😂😂😂 As bought, it was a failed project but almost all welding done nicely. It just needed hundreds of hours finishing and improving the body.

I was putting a Ford v8 in but realised it was a bad idea but it’s why the scoop is there on bonnet. It’s a steel one I made myself and welded in, at least it won’t crack round it.

The wheels are the normal 8 inch mini lites everybody puts on Sebring MGB’s but I fitted 25mm concentric spacers as well and lowered it enough to get the look right. A lot of sebring’s look like the wheels are lost in the arches. Uprated front anti roll bar and very thick oil in the original dampers has made it corner quite nicely. I’ve built it on a budget and to be easy to live with, not an ultimate creation.
It probably owes me about £6k and a lot of time.

I dismantled another MGB for bits but sold enough to almost get my money back. I dismantled a mk1 mx5 1.8 for the seats, engine and box and then made money selling the rest as it had the Torsen diff. I also dismantled another 1.6 mx5 mk1 for the ecu and loom, again I made money on this one as it had a hardtop.
So I’m running a late mk1 import 1.8 engine on a uk 1.6 sensors ecu and wiring.
I did this because I wanted the 1.8 but the bits are rare and expensive whereas the 1.6 bits are common and cheap.
The mx5 guys also reckon the 1.8 on a 1.6 ecu is sweeter.
In the future I’ll probably supercharge it. I have track record of blowing things on the cheap.

Must have missed this when it was posted, that's ace, looks great. I prefer the roadster to the GT, but I'd happily run that one. This was mine many many years ago I'd love to see a roadster done in a Sebring style.

That is a very nice looking car, Loving the "home made / fabrication / budget build" ethos of it all, Nigel

Uprated front anti roll bar and very thick oil in the original dampers has made it corner quite nicely. Which oil did you use? I gather originally they put SAE 20 oil in the lever arms...

Liking that.
The MX5 does seem to go in everything.
My Rezin Rockit had all the space.
A mate gave me a 1.8 engine which is in a container, back of my head has it reserved for something silly one day.

I’ve never thought roadsters look correct when Sebring arched.
It is fun to drive, just enough power to be nippy and slide a bit.
Not too much to make it hard work. Don’t get me wrong I love a rwd animal but I built this to be something you can daily.
I’m still looking for my next project build. I want another rwd with mx5 engine.
Once I’ve finished building a car I get bored of it quick, the fun for me is the building not the owning.
I’ve always thought the mgbgt is unlucky. It’s thought of badly due to the late bumpers and the fact they sold so many and they are everywhere. But a chrome bumper gt is actually a really good car. Attractive and easy to live with. Don’t get me wrong I’m not into them as such but if you forget you know them and try to look at one with fresh eyes they really are ok.

Yes 20 is normal, I used 30. I’d done it before to moggys I’ve had.
