Hi. I hope this is the right place to ask.
After a long retro gap I have just bought a Clio 182 project from FB.
The car itself is as described, but the seller (a small time trader) dropped it off on a flatbed because it was not road legal and as he was driving off mentioned he had forgotten to pick up the spare key and would post it.
He also didn’t bring the receipt for the cambelt chnage just done at a mates garage (it HAS been done. I have checked and the pulleys, belt and tensioner are all definitely brand new, with old ones in the boot.)
He was all communicative and apologetic for about a week after the sale and is now ghosting me.
I have kept it polite. Texted not more than once a week and only tried to call a few times.
On one hand, I have the car and it was honestly described. On the other, the lack of belts evidence and key effectively knocks about £600 off what I would have paid (30%) so I feel ripped off.
Turns out that he is not easily contacted at his ‘business unit’ bit of land in a farmyard near Warwick.
I do know the number of his trade plates, his name and the area/town he lives in from his fb profile.
My biggest concern is that he knows where I live and has a key to my car…
Any ideas what to do here? I could report him to fb, but I don’t know what they will do and that will p him off.
I’d like to track down the trade plate to a dealer (he works for a bigger dealer and I think it was his work’s flatbed and trade plates, so I’d happily ‘pop by the office’ ) But can you trace a trade plate?
Other than that my only option seems to be to keep trying to call/text until not talking to me is more hassle than talking to me. Or to give it up and buy an ecu/lock set for the car.
What would you do?
