Anyone got any interest in my newly acquired Cube?
I've finally scratched an itch I've had for years. It was the cheapest Cube I could find in the country and for good reason. It looks the business from a meter or so away but it needs a shedload of things sorting.
The more I add them up, the more I think I overpaid but I've got a car I absolutely love and enough cash left over from the sale of my old car to fix anything needing fixed.. hopefully.

1st job when I got home was to start removing the stickers. I actually liked them, but they were a deal beaker for the wife so they had to go. No.2 child insisted we keep the Rubik Cube sticker on the back window though, and we found that the stickers on the windscreen were hiding a crack in the glass so they were quickly stuck back down until I could get Autoglass to replace the screen

Loving the retro brown cloth interior, the bench seat is very comfy with suede effect trim on the centre part. Loads of storage too.
The body work is actually very good for it's age, however there were some rust issues in the floorpan, a couple of holes and bits needing patched and welded. My local independent bodyshop guy, Pete, took it in last week and sorted all of this, fixed the split in the exhaust, touched up the door edges and other stone chips and gave it a good dose of waxoyl.

Obviously the car has been lowered, in this case it's got a set of BK Racing coilovers and I think the 15" Japan Racing wheels suit it very well. The car rides vey well for being so low but some of the speed bumps in our village are fairly brutal so it needs a bit of care going over them.

While there was a fair bit of welding needing done, Pete was plesantly surprised about the condition of it underneath. It turned out to be way better than he expected when I told him on the phone about it.

Next jobs needing to be done...
Check engine light is on for a camshaft position sensor, and I'm pretty sure it's needing a coolant temperature sensor too but no fault code showing for that. It needs a wheel bearing as well and I'll also change the oil and filters, and the ATF fluid too.
Thinking about a cat back stainless exhaust system, been quoted about £480 to have one custom made and fitted but that will have to wait until the rest of the car is mechanically sound and it's passed it's MOT due in September, and also for my budget to improve.

I'd save the exhaust money for now, camshaft position sensor faults on these are usually because it needs the timing chain changing, though people usually seem to change the whole engine at that point.

Good to know, thanks. I'll get my local garage to take a look. If it does indeed need a timing chain then it could well be cheaper, or not much more expensive, just to swap the engine for a lower mileage one. I can definitely see that. Fingers crossed its just a dodgy sensor though.

go for it quirky little things saw one yesterday my daughter said what was that i’d drive one which i was surprised at!! It does get attention and comments wherever I take it and from all ages too but the younger ones in particular seem to like it. My mate's 17 year old son and his pals were gathered round it in the high street discussing how many bmx/scooters/skateboards they'd be able to take in it and my own kids would much rather go in the cube than their mum's mini. I've never had a car before that you get people taking photos of when you park up and didn't really expect that when I bought it.

Sorry for all the “Like” button action.
Lots to like.
Your wheels are perfect, I would love to have a set.
That brown interior would have me grinning every day.
Always like these when I see them and would happily have one as well.

Love this! Those seats are incredible. Definitely a modern classic I think. Are they fairly reliable? Also I'd be interested to know what its like on the motorway and the fuel consumption is like? Keep us updated

My neighbour had one of these, hes 6'8" and built like an outhouse. Always amused me when he curled himself into it.
