I am building a special saloon based on a Mini size bodied car
I was all set up to get it spayed in my garage as i cant move the main body around easily ( its a long story ) lots of the other panels come off and can spray separate
I have found a great guy to spray it but i don't have a big enough compressor atm.
Can any body recommend a suitable compressor and spray gun for the job. I was thinking about 14.5 cfm unit from machine mart at the moment.
Although its a competition car it has to have a good finish.
Cheers and appreciate any advice even on the kind of paint to use.

What type of paint are you using? If its 2K then the sprayer should be wearing a full face mask in which case you will need a fair bit of air.
When I pained my MK2 Jags I used a 50 litre compressor for the spray gun and and 150 litre compressor for the mask, the 50 litre is a really old AID unit and I think works a lot better than a modern 50 litre unit from the ones i've used.
Running both together was just about able to keep up with my spraying and I was only painting the outside of the shell, I did the doors, bonnet and bootlid seperately.

I am currently re-spraying a car using celulose. I am running a cheap gravity fed gun at approx 40-45psi fed with a 25ltr 2hp draper compressor. I have what looks a lot like a draper branded version of this www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-tiger-8260-2hp-24-litre-air-compressor/along with a gun which looks identical to this, but a different brand www.machinemart.co.uk/p/pgf18-gravity-fed-pro-spray-gun/I also run an air drier in the air line. At 45psi the compressor JUST keeps up. Not saying that this is a good setup, but I suspect I have just about the minimum viable setup for spraying - any more gun or any less compressor and it wouldn't keep up. EDITED to add, I have not used the compressor you linked, but I am sure it would be sufficient

I ended up in the scenario of using a 50l compressor to spray my 200l compressor when I recommissioned it, and it was an awful experience. The pressure was up and down all over the place and it made it hard to get a good finish. The tank isn’t big enough to have a ‘smoothing’ effect on the air pressure. Bigger the better, I wouldn’t want to be using anything under 100L.
Those Clarke spray guns are actually alright. I have one and you have to be spending 10 times the price to get anything appreciably better. You need to fit an on-gun reg to them, and the other fault with them is the O-ring between the body and the brass diffuser isn’t thinners-proof. You need to buy a pack of nitrile ones in that size or it’ll leak from there. Other than that they’re reasoabale enough once you get them set up.

Many thanks to you all its much appreciated.
I heard 2k is dangerous so apart from that what are my options for painting at home, Base coat and Clear or Cellulose.
I don't mind rubbing down and polishing to get a good finish and not worried about the paint fading in time as the car will spend all its life (apart from events) in the garage as its not road legal, colour will be Ferrari red on the body and the space frame in satin black. Its based on a 60 year old car so Cellulose might be more fitting ? Also a sits a competition car which paint is easier to repair if any damage needs sorting in the future ?

All paints are dangerous when you spray them, so a respirator is always required. 2k requires a bit more care when you source that respirator; the paint supplier will be able to advise.
Otherwise, 2k is the answer to all your questions; it's simple to use, gives a good finish straight from the gun, is economical, hard wearing and easy to repair. One of the things that makes it more economical is that a solid colour will only need two coats, which saves paint, labour and reduces the chances of cocking up.

I have painted a car at home and you will be needing some kind of extraction as without it your garage will fill up in a couple of minutes and you will be painting blind which is never going to give a good result.

No but you can save a bit by buying to 50L one. Same cfm which is all the really matters. Seems like a half decent compressor for the money. You wont get much more from a 13amp supply.

I had one basically the same, easily keeps up with just spraying alone, but it's 'kin noisy. Go belt drive if you can. Now got a 100l belt drive Clarke, about the same CFM. A spray gun running at 2bar, which is about what most paints specify doesn't even come close to giving it a work out, the problem will be if you are trying to also run breathing air and then you'll have to drop a few more hundred quid on filters etc. Continuously running a cheap import DA however has it going full bore. I experimented with a 2kw hydrovane for a while, but it only gave about 6cfm at full bore, not even enough for continuous sanding, nice and quiet though.
