I grew up watching Charlies Angels so I have a definite soft spot for Pintos. I had a Mustang II which is a close relative and I kinda liked the thing. This is probably not the Pinto I would take on as a potential daily, because its the saloon and I think I'd go mad keep expecting it to be a hatchback. So I think a hatch would be a requirement for me. But they have a rep of being utter slugs to drive. And it strikes me that basically these things ran Cortina engines for the most part, and the Lima 2.3 is basically a long stroke version of "our Pinto". Nobody is sitting there yakkin about how Cortinas and Capris and Escort RS2000s were slugs. So every now and again I think to myself, yanno, what and how would I go about turning a Pinto (car) into something I'd like as a daily driver...? I guess anything one can do to the European SOHC one can more or less do to a 2.3 Lima, or could drop a 2.0 Pinto into in place of. But maybe there's smarter suggestions.... Imagine one was to be faced with this brown beauty, and a mission to make it a sensible daily, ideally keeping all the exemptions in place legally-ish.... www.carandclassic.com/car/C1456702

No idea on actually using one daily, 2.3 + turbo is a weapon though. We've seen (well) north of 700bhp with most of the factory bits still in them.
I assume the rest of the driving experience is terrible as it's American but you could probably do a 300bhp daily turbo engine that would be fast enough to be funny at traffic lights

I assume the rest of the driving experience is terrible as it's American I think this is a common misconception as I've had a fair amount of American cars over the years and in my experience they drive much like similar cars of the era from the rest of the world. My feeling is that the pinto will drive and handle very much like a mk3, 4, 5 Cortina. Perfectly adequate for a daily driver, and probably quite tweakable if you feel the need for it to be a little sharper.

The earlier stuff pre mid 60s is alright, yet to drive one after that on our roads that isn't terrible though, the muscle car stuff is especially disappointing. Makes me a bit sad because I used to love American cars.

Dunno if you are expecting too much or just driving bad examples. I absolutely love the owd yank stuff. Smog era stuff has obvious limitations on power and some of the later malaise stuff is "so bad its hilariously good" as stock, but simple mods can make them a delight. IMHO. of course, we all want different things out of cars. People rave about BMWs yet I've yet to drive one I didn't hate. YMMV.

All I can say is that in January I found myself absolutely gutted after losing this one. Not through lack of trying. And Sally is worthy. On Saturday she offered me her garage as dry storage for the Pinto I wanted to buy. Thankfully the Pinto was sold when I called later in the day. Or else Paul Y and craigrk would have been rubbing their hands in glee, having spent my savings.

Oh nice, a slim bumper early model. Thats what I'd want. In a hatchback. Ideally in bright yellow.

The Lima and Pinto share absolutely nothing in common apart from looks as far as I am aware. the block on the 2.3 is about 3" longer than the Euro version.

Atmo V8 Power . No slicks , No gas + No bits missing . Doing it in style. Austin A35van, very different------- but still doing it in style, going to be a funmoble

I kinda like David Newberns Pinto Although I don't care too much for the exhaust... Love those wheels though!

Usually, the "bad driving" experience relates to the fact that these cars are old and tired - a new set of bushings and ball joints up front does wonders for these old beasts - but as akku says "YMMV"
I know I have posted this picture elsewhere but, as this is a Pinto thread it seems only right and proper that I post it here.
In high school my wife's then-boyfriend drove one of these (not this actual one though) all I can think to say is that in spite of some of his many perceived faults - as relayed to me by herself - in at least this area he was WINNING!
Can you be swayed akku? Is this what you are really hankering after...?

What about a 2.3 eco-boosr out of a S550 Mustang? Mondern & easy power, in gear acceleration isnt far off the V8 (in fact it's quicker in some cases, shhh) One on ebay atm, brand new with loom £5k. Remap will see 350bhp, I doubt you could build another ford engine with that power for that price.
