OH YESSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!! I very much approve . Being sensible , i’d say it really doesn’t need it , but since when has being sensible ever worked out to be the correct thing to do ?!?! 😂 👍 Sensible is definitely not the right thing to do. Ever. I've tried. Got the car back from mapping Tuesday. I've managed 3 days of sensible. That's more than enough thank you very much 🤣🤣

So I thought I best clear up my latest impulse purchase. I say impulse. It's not an impulse. It was always gonna happen haha. Been doing some reading and it would appear the st170 is happy with some boost. Don't get me wrong it's not 500bhp on stock internals happy. But it's 260/280 easily happy.. and were not moving a lot of weight (barring the driver) haha. The cars quick as it is. Safely manageable quick. You can plant the throttle and it just goes. For 99% of the population you would say it was sufficient. But sadly I'm in the 1% that can never have enough.. Was chatting with a mate and showed him what I'd Seen cheap small t28 size on eBay. To which he replies I've got a few of them lightly used (he ran them on a twin turbo uz, that's done very few miles and not been abused on a auto).. he's upgraded to some fancy Garrett made on the moon things (he's got more money than me 🤣🤣).. back and forth, deal was done and il have it Monday 🙈🙈 Back to the car managed to get the exhaust back on today. Pleased to report no more blows (blowing exhausts just spoil the noise if you ask me).. So does this mean I'm pulling it off the road and doing it this week. Absolutely not. I'm using it and enjoying the summer. When we get to depths of winter and roads are vile then il do it all then. Il gather bits until then. I've also had this silly idea to run itbs and the turbo. Because race car haha. Il need a plenum summat like this. But shouldn't be overly complicated (I know ideally it needs to taper).. I've also been trying to source a roll bar for it that may save me should the worse happen. Unfortunately tiger don't make them any more. I'm happy to weld it but I need some thick wall 44mm roll cage tube bending. There's a few advertising on eBay so sent em a message along with a terrible drawing. Basically it's a hoop, a diagonal and 2 1 metre lengths with the end scalloped to meet the hoop. Got a price back from one. With the diagonal brace welded in. Of 260 quid. No idea if that's good bad or indefferent. Suggestions on who to try and what it may cost are welcomed. Anyways. Home now for weekend. As is the car. Got a lot on including a wedding but I'm 10000 % going to be going for a drive and most likely taking eldest out in it again More soon Cheers

Dave at Tornado Motorsport (near Derby) tornadomotorsport.co.uk/ might be worth a try. Did the cage on my rally car to my spec and did a lovely job.

Hellloooo retrorides.long time no waffle. Il be honest I've been a bit quiet on here. I seem to be busy non stop along with going away with the kids as often as possible in the caravan on a weekend. That and real work has meant little car time. I say little car time. Little tinkering time. The car has had PLENTY of use!! So since it's a me story what's gone wrong. We'll. Nothing. Nowt. Zilch. Absolutely everything is still bolted where it should be, nothing has cought fire/fell off or broken. Il be completely honest it's a breath of fresh air. No stress, no expense, no disappointment.. All I've spent is petrol money (and in much smaller quantities than my previous bad idea used).. it's made an attempt on eating another set of air filters but other than that all's well! I've used it to commute, used it to go shopping, used it to run round in. I've just used it. I've not just used it. I've absolutely kicked it's head in. Been proper horrible to it. And it loves it!! It screams and screams and asks for more. And who am I to argue.. it sticks like sh1t to a blanket, corners like a scalextric car, and the brakes are serious (and with no servo you can feel everything).. I have had my first disaster in it. I didnt bring it home Tuesday. Far too hot. Far too much sunburn, just wanted a/c and my van. So when It cooled down day after I needed my fix so fetched it home. Except Thursday when I got up it was raining sideways!! We'll van was at work, an i needed to be at work. Smashing.. all I can say is with no roof, windows or weather gear at all, it wasn't fun for commuting in the rain. I was soaked from my head to my my toes. It's also incredibly easy to spin the wheels up in the rain and can do the most comical slow motion walking speed drifts I've ever known 🤣🤣 I haven't neglected doing something. Got some prices for the proper roll cage bending. That tube bender place above will be getting the job, but I'm holding off til payday to get it ordered. (See being sensible with money). I also offered the turbo up to the place it needed to live in. And can confirm it will sit in right sort of spot with little to no drama. So looks like that will be a goer come winter when I park it up. It's kit car show this weekend at Newark so all being well I'm going there Sunday (got grown up stuff to do tomorrow) and other than that it's more of the same. Fuel, smiles, and minimal aggro. Oh and I promise il try take some pictures, problem is you really really don't mess with phone while your driving it. It's you and the car. I don't even have phone in pocket while I'm driving. And it's that snug it's not the sort of thing you jump in and out of every 2 seconds haha. Cheers

Hellooooo.. long time no post. I know I know. I'm a terrible person and I've let you all down... But hey. No news is good news right 😂... But where have I been, does it now sport 500bhp a snazzy paint job and full fia spec cage. Well in a word. No haha. So what have I done. Well... I washed it. Once 😂 Il be honest, I've not done a single thing to it. Other than put fuel in it. And drive it enthusiastically I've not so much as laid a spanner on it. This is both a blessing and a curse it would appear. See for previous 3 years I've spent every penny spare and then some working on the lexus. Every spare hour at work fixing/improving something. Til it got to the point it owed me a scary amount of money/time and still wasn't where I wanted. This is the polar opposite. It owes me the same as the day I bought it. And other than a service I've not touched it. I did check oil n water last week. But it's exactly were it was 5 months ago. I'd hardly call that maintenance haha. So what have I been doing. Well... I've been away 10 times in the caravan with the kids. Seen stuff done stuff. There 3 & 4 now and I want em to do as much as they can. And it all costs money. Money I can't spend on the car and mini holidays.. that's not a problem as such more a conscious decision I've made.. I've also got a gammy knee and I'm waiting for an operation. And it's not what you would cal comfortable when my knee flairs up so ends up parked then. Let's not pretend I've not used it. Last week alone I commuted in it 3 days out of 5. It's been used on weekends for a quick blast, I've even been shopping in it 😂😂 only thing is insurance is virtually nothing and it owes me very little. So if it ends up being parked up for a fortnight, I'm not overly sad about it.. The only thing is unlike some stuff I've had in the past, it's not all consuming. I'm not wanting to mess with it every day, spend every penny, polish to within inch of its life. You get the idea. An because of that I keep seeing odd thing come up for sale and think "I wouldn't mind that". But I'm only having 1 toy and not gettin in debt for them.. so without selling the kit first nothing comes of it. That leads me onto my dilemma. Part of me wants to mess with it. It needs to be a lairy colour. Needs to make Choo Choo noises. Etc. But part of me wants to leave it as it is so if I was to sell it I'd get my money back and then some... The other thing is only having the 1 spare seat, and me having 2 kids an Mrs and dog, I can't really go out in it without leaving most of em out 🤷 I have gathered a few bits for it. I've got a bonnet of a mk indy that is infinitely nicer than the abomination that's on it, but i need to buy a nose cone for it to work. I've acquired a modified standard inlet plenum so if I wanted to I could sell the throttle bodies to fund the turbo. And I've got the turbo and a standard exhaust manifold to modify to suit. Thing is I'm not 1000% sure of the direction I'm gonna go. Part of me thinks make the bodywork presentable and run it as is before I get myself involved for another couple of grand turboing it. Other part thinks if I do start messing will I love it and not want to get rid (don't get me wrong it's a proper giggle and gets more heads turned than owt I've ever had before).. So yeah. There's an update. Not perhaps the one we all wanted. But the one we have haha. Il try n do better haha Cheers

To be honest, it is absolutely fantastic to hear that you have been having a mega time in it!
In terms of what direction to take it, I can't be of any help at all, I would be exactly the same...
If it works, don't break it, but then it's fun to mess with stuff, but that might then mean it breaks... hmmm haha
Just keep on keeping on, i'm sure the answer will come at some point!
In the meantime, have you figured out a way to rig up a camera to capture some seat time video?

That’s a good update .
With everything you’ve been through in recent times , it’s good that you can get in it & just go & have fun .
It’s always a dilemma deciding wether to mess with a car or not , but seems you’ll enjoy it which ever route you choose .
👍

But 1 my sense of fast is a bit faulty so I always wants more. An 2 I'm not "attached" to it. So if something I wanted came up and someone wanted this I'd happily sell (and obviously if 2k into mods I might be different).. And no on the camera front unfortunately. It's not been a good year for time with Mates either. Everyone is growing up, in real mon-fri jobs,. Got kids etc. We've managed to get to pub once in last ten months and that was for 2 hours on a school night. I will try tho Cheers

But I guess that could also be it's downfall too. Since it's so like a "normal" car.. And il be honest all the stuff that's gone off my head's still not right. Not sure it ever will be. But atleast at minute I've not got the stress of a broken car in the mix too. I'm sure il do something with it. But for now il carry on using it as and when. And planning my week around the weather so I know when it's safe to take to work to play haha Cheers

Couldn't and wouldn't comment on what you should or shouldn't do with the car, horses for courses as we say over here. But, that's a great update, basically no issues or costs and you're enjoying the car. I'd say that's a win,win & win again!
Keep rocking👍

Trouble is if you sold it to get a “four seater” you’d need to spend a lot of money to get to the same level of “fun” and then you’d want to make it go faster and then that’s another level of stress, possibly unreliable and definitely expensive ! 😂
Good to see you back !

Thanks everyone. It's a bit of a change it being sat ready to go should I want to use it rather than there being 3 months work to have it ready.
Days like today at work don't help tho. Weathers horrendous so I can't play in it. But worse, works quiet and I'm not inclined to mess/modify/fiddle with it.
I do think if someone wanted it id let it go, or even fancied a deal on it for something old/rwd/4 seats. Either that or il keep it and still be blasting along the back lanes this time next year.
Cheers
(In mean time il get caught up on everyone else's build threads)

Sooooooo. I've decided that this is probably for sale. I know I can't list it on here since there isn't a section (unless an admin says so and tells me a section, it is E reg after all) 😂😂
I just can't get the use out of it with 2 kids and no free time to play on my own. It's insured for 8k and would fetch that all day long in the summer tidied up, the spec it is. But the body work needs a tidy and it's coming up to winter.
That being said I'd take £5500 on here. With the spare new bonnet pile of spare arches I've got and the standard inlet/exhaust manifold if you want to go turbo route. That's basically to the penny what it owes me. I would take a sensible offer. But be sensible please.
I've a few things with more seats in the running lined up. Rwd/fwd/4wd.. Some retro some newer. All will undoubtedly be broken 😂😂😂 due to my peasant budget.. il list it properly after weekend. If it doesn't go il tart it up myself and list for strong money next spring and use it to commute when it's not raining 😂
Cheers

At least you've had fun in it without all the hassle you had previously. That is 10000% true. And sadly may be it's downfall. It just works. Running gear is too like a normal car I can leave it parked a fortnight jump in and it just goes 😂😂 But because it works so well I'm not inclined to mess. If nothing else it's given my head a break without having to mess with summat. Brilliant for a new owner but not ideal for who needs to be messing to stay interested... Cheers
