Yeah I did think that BJ race engines was a questionable name. And made for some interesting internet search results.. That's the title of the map. And it definitely isn't a Ka The fury looks the part, tbh I'm a fan of anything that's some box section some bodywork and not a lot else. But I was slightly budget limited in what I could afford haha.. Although the tiger cat is a bit heavier than some of the 7 style kits since it uses the whole Sierra rear subframe (around 620kg) I'm hoping with the power it makes and being sat on the floor it should be a good laugh. Cheers

620kg? That's a heavy subframe!
IIRC, the "B" in BPJ stood for "Big"?

Do you know if that's the original engine used in the IVA registration or is it part of the "upgraditis" that plagues the kit car world. Just wondering if the bonnet mods all formed part of an engine swap that never got fully completed.
ETA
Looking at the photo showing the odd grille in a hole on the drivers side - I think it probably had a Pinto in it originally

I've pictures in the folder full of reciepts with it complete with the pinto in. The st170 engine came later ln it's life but still with the original owner. Not sure if he ran out of time/budget/patience. But it's a mess. Some of the later tigers ran the zetec twin cam and have a bulge in the nose cone and bonnet to suit. So long term that's the plan. So mot day. With a load of bits needing a bit of a look at work did what work does best at the minute and went wrong.. at one point it out was looking like I was gonna have to cancel test for today. Some grovelling to my boss and a reshuffle and disaster averted.. I'd also organised for lexus shell to go today. Yeah there's probably odd bit I could have salvaged and sold. But the high value parts are sold and the sellable bits were off. And I'm conscious I'm doing all this messing at work and making place look like a breakers yard. Which it's not. Those of a nervous disposition look away now 🙈🙈 3 years of work. A scary amount of money a scarier amount of time. And I got a drink from scrap man 😂.. in a strange way it feels like a relief. Chapter closed. Time to move on. Now back onto the boxsectionmobile... I wanted to whip the wheels off and check nothing was falling off. It's a bit un nerving driving summat a man in his shed assembled without checkin it over first. The wheels although aren't my cup of tea don't look bad and have the brand tecnomagnesio on them. Whipped them off and there all straight and true and are infact meant to be some kind of lightweight magnesium track wheel.. Wheels will be for sale soon as I've found a set of 15s in right offset.. back on an chucked a bucket of water near it. Doesn't look bad for an old knacker but will definitely benefit from a proper machine polish. That bonnet tho what on earth 😂😂 Stuck the plates on it and prayed. I was definitely nervous of my first trip onto the open road. Test time rolled round an I set off. Below 3k it's not happy but drivable at best. It really needs setting up properly. Over 3k it's like a little go kart. Steering is precise, brakes sharp, noise immense, acceleration brisk.. steering wheel is too big and doesn't leave room for my knees. But that's easy fixed. You do feel very very exposed tho. So much so you end up driving how I used to ride on road. Like everyone is trying to kill you Luckily the test place is only about 4 mile from work and I was pleased to have made it there.. all happy all 5 gears work. No overheating. Happy days... I hoped. One thing I did notice is the way it turns heads. I could have been rolling down city road in a lambo and made less of an impact haha (the pops and bangs don't help).. I was definitely nervous as its definitely been on a whim up to now. The history was sketchy and the last owner not that well informed. Got it up in the air and had a poke around myself. And to my surprise it's all mint. No rust. No leaks. Nowt falling off. And some very nice looking bits. Including as new spax coilovers and a sump that says "race line" on it. Quick Google search and wow. 575 English pounds for a sump ffs!! Builder clearly liked spending money What seemed like a very long 40 minutes (much ecig and pacing) and the verdict is ...... Never doubted a thing!!!! We have a mot!!!! Tester even commented it looked like new underneath! Id call that a result! Total spend so far £10 for a TPS! Paid up and set off back to work (it's living at work til I'm brave enough to tell Mrs I have another toy) 😂😂.. all was happy 26 degrees life's good.. until it wasnt. Coming up city road toward manor top (if your from area you know where I mean, if your not just watch a traffic cops program, they will be there) it started to run really badly. Like terrible. On 3 popping banging and like a sack of spanners...ohhhhh grreeeaaaattt.. then a whiff of petrol. This isn't ideal. Especially as I'd decided not to fit the fire extinguisher I'd removed from the Lexus!! As I reached the Manor top (again consult traffic cops if your not familiar) I noticed it spitting fuel out of the mesh on the bonnet next to the throttle bodies..panic stations!! Coming down Mansfield road there's definitely fuel coming out the grill on the bonnet. And I'm panicking.. do I stop(and it potentially ignite with no way of putting it out).. or carry on and hope it makes its to work (about a mile away with fire extinguishers and the hose etc.). Decision is made. Assuming I don't turn into a fire ball I'm carrying on! There was more than 1 squeeky bum moment as traffic slowed and I prayed for it to get moving again. Luckily I made it to work and have never been so relieved to see work gates.. key off bonnet off wtf has happened now!! We'll the soaking wet air filter was a clue. And the trail that followed the car all the way to work was another. Yeah. That will do it. Oring on number 3 injector has exited stage left. Not sure if it's split or just popped out (tbf I had the rail off.to replace a leaky pipe). But either way that's my leak and I'm relieved I'm not a fireball. Pulled the soaking wet filter of to dry an shoved the car inside. It's been a day of up and downs but as a whole I'd call it a success. Next step. Let's crack on with it!! Cheers

If you had stopped and it had caught fire you could have beaten the flames out with the bonnet and solved two problems in one - Congrats on the pass ETA Wonder if the BDA lookalike cover fit that engine - a reason not to bother with a bonnet at all www.retroford.co.uk/product/bda-zetec-rocker-cover-kit-z057/AETA Says it in the text - will not fit ST170

Great stuff. Personally I wouldn't bother with a turbo btw, they're one of those cars that just don't need it. I get to drive a IRS Westfield with a stock apart from twin 45s 2.0 Zetec (maybe 150bhp on a good day) in fairly often at work and it'll smoke pretty much anything else on the road. I'd spend the money on track days or something and get used to how fast they can go round corners then transfer that to the road.

Builder clearly liked spending money Might have been out of necessity to get the engine low enough to fit under the bonnet - my mate's Westfield was like that. Good one on the MOT pass for just the cost of a TPS. You are quite the jammy barsteward.

A shame about the Lexus; sometimes life can be unkind. Better fortune with this one Matt.

Oh I don't think it will "need" a turbo.. but everyone wants a turbo haha. Tbh first plan is get some stickier tyres, smaller wheels and a geometry set up. And I'm desperate for some track time while weathers nice. But in the dark depths of winter when I need summat to fiddle with spinny noisy things are always the answer regardless of the question haha Cheers

It sort of nearly does haha. And I tell a lie. I also spent 20 quid on a pair of new air filters. So that's 30 quid total spend 🤣 Cheers

Sadly this is going to be one of those none exciting updates without pictures only words.. work has gone mad and I've not even been in the workshop since MOT day.
That been said I've been doing a bit of stuff in background. Namely
Oil and filter picked up while working so I can change that (it's done 3k since build and most of that not on this engine). But it seems right to know where I'm starting from!
New dinky steering wheel ordered which should hopefully help with my leg to wheel clearance
Oh and it's booked in for mapping next Friday with John 😂 (well it's getting dropped off it's back when it's back).. but unlike the lexus that I HAD to make 500bhp, this can make whatever it likes aslong as it works. A baseline if you like. I just want to be able to use it and as it is it's pretty much impossible on that map that's on it.
The standard engine makes 170bhp allegedly (it's lower than that In reality from what I've read). This has the itbs the nice exhaust and the standalone. Il be honest even if it makes 180 but behaves perfectly and drives how it should il be happy (for now)..
Hopefully work should calm down next week an il be able to do something with words and pictures haha
Cheers

So it would appear my time to do anything is being severely hindered by being a grown up. This needs to change haha. What I have managed this week isn't exciting. But necessary. Starting with selling virtually all the stuff left from the lexus. So that's the bank account back in right direction. Also figured before it goes on the Dyno tomorrow it would be a good idea to give it a service.. except I've got a nakerd knee. And I can't kneel down at all ðŸ˜... Can't see knee specialist til August. However where there's a will there's a way 😂😂 Don't worry it wasn't as sketchy as it looks, was sat on a pallet spreading load and I didn't really go "under" it.. haha. Got the oil and filter swapped with no drama. Also chucked a set of new expensive spark plugs in (I've been spoilt buying standard copper plugs for past forever) Checked all levels. Job done. It's now ready to go in morning once it's taxed (which is incidentally is more a month than the insurance!!).. I ordered myself a nice little 250mm flat bottom steering wheel last Thursday. 24 hour postage, be here Monday latest... I thought!. Still hasn't turned up today so messaged the eBay seller only to be told there was a "stock discrepancy" and they had no stock for five weeks ffs. Order cancelled and ordered same thing from elsewhere (but won't be here in time for tomorrow I doubt) I've also been looking for a set of nice lightweight 15 in 4x108 wheels. Something like team dynamics pro race or similar. However all the stuff round here is silly money (especially considering I can get them for £100 each new)!! The quest continues. Oh and I've emailed tiger directly about a proper rear roll bar rather than the mouse trap thing it's currently got on Figured it may be a good idea before I track it and if there available at sensible money il order one rather than break out the welder.. More soon hopefully. Cheers
