Hi everyone, looking for a little bit of advice!
I’ve got a Volvo 460 for sale on eBay and had a couple of offers from Americans asking me to deliver the car to Liverpool docks. I’m more than happy with the offer but worried it’s part of a bigger scam (we are talking less than £1000).
What’s the safest way to take payment? Could the guy open a PayPal dispute for example and get all his money back for a fabricated fault?
Thanks!

For less than 1k I don't think I would want the grief with ebay and paypal, there are a lot of decent Americans as you can tell on this forum but the only ebay buyers I used to get problems with were American!

Sounds like a scam to me. I wouldn't entertain selling to export unless it was to be collected in person, to many scammers claiming moneyback or sending fake confirmation of funds transfer.

I would have thought that the shipping cost would be more than the car's value.

I would have thought that the shipping cost would be more than the car's value. That kind of logical thinking doesn't come into buying a rarity

I had an American guy come and buy my Honda Legend recently, I was a bit sceptical as he was willing to pay essentially full price compared to the other offers I was getting.
But he turned out to be legit, he had a niche in importing right hand drive cars to the US, even if they didn't seem to be particularly exciting or rare models..
Difference was, he was in the UK at the time so was able to come buy the car in person and pay by bank transfer which I think is one of the more secure methods as a seller. I don't know if it's a viable option if they're actually in the US though?

Quick update.
Spoke to the guy on the phone today. He’s offered to pay friends and family PayPal and will pay me to deliver it to Liverpool docks.
I’ve asked why he’d want to buy a car that’s not worth much in the UK and he claims they didn’t get the 460 over there (I’m going to check this). Anyway I’m going to send him some more photos and see if they put him off haha.

Be aware you can chargeback a f&f payment, even though PayPal try to make out otherwise.
