As some of you may know I've been looking a for 'fun' project... something to mess about with but without any pressure to get it done and/or paid for, and also introduce my sons to spanners. Well a Suzuki DR125 has come up near me, well under budget but with no paperwork. Frame number is not recognised on these VIN to reg services, so assuming its been imported at some point.
Obviously I won't have a NOVA or anything like that. Do I have any chance at all of getting it registered or am I better off looking at spending (a lot) more money for something with a V5?

Yes it's possible, see my thread at forum.retro-rides.org/thread/212865/v62-reg-number-rejectedI NOVA'd the bike in the end and went through the V55/5 route. You can NOVA online, I seem to remember I had to be careful with the options on there to be able to get through it but got it first time, no taxes to pay. The V55/5 was harder, as for me it was hard to get dating evidence as it was an obscure manufacturer, presumably for a Suzuki you could get dating evidence from them, worth checking that first (and if they charge). There's also a £55 cost (+ road tax) to do the V55/5, so make sure you factor that into negotiations, as well as MOT cost.

Thank you. Just had a quick read through your thread, the bike is very cool! I thought NOVA could only be done within 14 days of import though?

My brother bought a Capri a year or 2 back, that was exported to Ireland then brought back and not declared, something the seller also failed to mention (he also got a logbook that turned out to be an old one). He sorted his, didn't have to pay anything, took nearly 10 months though as it was the start of lockdown so it is doable

Ok I've logged back in to the nova site to see if I could still start a new nova, and it appears that it is no longer an option for private non vat registered buyers (other than through Ireland). I think mine was done while the Brexit grace period was still in effect. It appears that has now ended, and it looks much scarier now. It seems to imply that NOVA now needs to be done by a registered company before it leaves the port.
You could ring HMRC for advice, but I haven't been able to find any way to declare an older import now. You may need to go the SVA/IVA route, sorry I'm not sure how you proceed from here.

I had a horrible feeling that might be the case. Thank you for the advice.
