Hi all,
Anyone got any tips for restoring the colour on a blue soft top?
Mine has been allowed to get very dirty and after cleaning it has dark patches where the dye seems to have washed out or worn off. I've tried wire brushing a tiny bit of one of the dark patches just to make sure it isn't still dirty and it does not seem to change back to blue even with that very intense treatment leading me to thinking the hood material is usually black but dyed blue.
I don't like Renovo. I've used that before and the roof felt rough and obviously painted. I'd rather find a softer way of restoring the colour if anybody knows of a way to do it?

I used a Furniture Clinic product and was very pleased with the result . I think some one on this forum recomended them . IIRC they have two different concentrations I used the strongest one .

I just bought a dye kit from ebay and applied it with a sponge and then sealed. I have to admit don't know how well its lasted though as I don't have the car any more.

Did it change the feel of the fabric? When I used Renovo on a previous car it felt like the surface of the hood had become painted. It went rough. Looked okay from a distance but didn't feel right. Second question... can you remember what it was called or do you have a link to something similar?

Looking at the Furniture Clinic stuff it should do the job. Claims to soak in and not change the texture.

Update to this thread in case anybody else gets stuck with this problem.
I tried cleaning a small patch of the top with cellulose thinners and a stiff brush as I still wasn't sure the discolouration was missing dye.
It turns out the dark patches are just dirt that none of the usual cleaning products are able to shift. My guess is it must be something like tree sap. That can be very hard to shift from anything, least of all fabric where it has a chance to engrain itself with the material.
A slight downside of the cellulose cleaning process is a little bit of the dye is visible on the cleaning brush but on the patch where I tested this the colour remains on the roof to the point where you wouldn't notice any difference.
After the cellulose thinners I immediately applied soft top cleaner and then washed it down with plenty of water. Just have to go over the rest of it now.
