Hi all,
I want to get some input on dealing with the DVLA before getting myself into a hole...
The car is an old special/kit car with current V5 and is currently in many bits.
The taxation class is "Not Licenced" with date of first registration is xx xx 1990 and a "Special Note" on the front of the V5 stating "Was registered and/or used. declared manufactured 193x"
The manufactured date most likely refers to the original donor car when it was built in the 60s. From what I can make out "Not Licenced" is a legacy status predating SORN and should be left until I need to tax the car with a V10 form. Does that sounds correct?

The bigger issue in my mind at least is the engine capacity which is not correct, by some margin. There is also no engine number on the V5, it just has AS CHASSIS. The engine does have a number.
The obscure nature of the car means I am very wary of involving the DVLA at all, but also don't want to get into a debate about the cars identity after the restoration is complete and a lot of time and money has been invested. The V5 only has the "Make" specified which again refers to the original donor, but no "Type" or "Variant". "Body type" is correct and I have no intention of touching any of this, but if the car's identity is brought into question it's a very grey area!
So - what do I do? These are my options as far as I can tell
1) nothing - restore the car, sort out the tax and use
2) restore the car, get it MOTed, sort the engine size and number then
3) write to DVLA now, requesting that the V5 be corrected with the correct engine size (unsure whether to provide the number unless asked)
4) reassemble the car so it could be inspected if required, then submit the request to DVLA ref the engine size
All feedback and ideas welcome!!
Many thanks
James
