Morning all, I’ve just installed a complete electronic distributor setup on a Reliant Scimitar SE5. The issue I’m having is trying to find an ignition switched, stable 12v supply that doesn’t drop when cranking. If I put the supply wire straight on the battery, it starts instantly. However every other feed I’ve tested drops too much when cranking for it to start. Has anyone had any issues with this before?

How far is it dropping? There shouldn't be much of a drop between the battery and anywhere on the ignition circuit with just the load of the coil on it, unless you are connecting it to the coil supply and it's ballasted.

Original coil 12v supply should do the trick

I would think you have a wiring issue there, so one way around your problem would be to supply your new ignition system direct from the battery to include a relay in this supply switched via an ignition feed.

Bear in mind a lot systems disconnect the aux circuits when the ignition switch is turned to start (to ensure max power is available when cranking) as above the original coil supply should work, but take it straight from the fuse in case there's a resistance wire to reduce the voltage to the original coil. A wiring diagram will tell all

Got it sorted all, took it directly from the back of the ignition. Still odd as I can’t really see why the voltage drop would be less there but it was just small enough to allow the dist to work so it starts fine now. Thanks for the replies.
