Hi! My Volvo has a piston failure after only 20000mls..... In 2016 the engine got a rebore and a set of new EGGE/USA pistons...the only ones available for old Volvo B4b or B14a engines.OEM pistons are from german brand Kolbenschmidt or Mahle...but they didn't make them anymore.THEY last likely around 120000mls... JP pistons from Australia offer a set of pistons for B14a engines....but i don't know ifthey are from better quality.... I don't want to use that EGGE scrap again.....i spoke to some people at a german Volvo forum who have the same problems.... Mostly after 30000km of use the pistons gave up.... Does anybody know something about JP Pistons? Greet

I've used them about 3 years ago as a customer supplied them. They were pretty bad, all over size wise, as far as I know they're still going strong though.
Have you found the source of your failure? Can't tell exactly but looks like detonation or foreign object damage.

Sorry to hear about your woes totti , that's pretty annoying! I had a set of JP pistons fitted to a 1.5 Cologne V4 by an automotive machine shop 15 years ago, I haven't heard any complaints from them back then (they were probably just as polite as stealthstylz not to moan about the quality of parts I supplied ). I've still not run the engine in earnest due to an issue that I only recently managed to diagnose (valve spring just hitting the oil deflection plate resulting in a horrible knock), so can't comment on durability.

Is it the correct head gasket? is the gasket bore diameter meant to be that much larger than the bore? is it the same on the cylinder head? Looks like some small marks at 3 oclock on the piston too, has something been in there and caused the damage rather than piston at fault? any damage to the combustion chamber?

Pulled the pistons today..... Another ring is brocken on the piston next to this desaster.... Never seen such a piston befor.... Greet

Blimey…..those are torched! 😳looks like you need to turn down the nitrous a bit! 😛
Seriously though, are both those pistons fed by the same carb? The pistons may not be the most robust but those look like they’ve seen detonation maybe caused by one carb being lean?
Is it a possible to find a piston intended for a different engine with dimensions that are close enough? For example, Mahle pistons intended for VW are sometimes used in Triumph engines because they are stronger.

Would it be easier to get a B18, or is that not allowed under the TUV regs?

Looking at the state of the CROWNs it's probably the result of the excessive oil consumption/deposits on the piston CROWN causing glowing/hot spots which have broken the boundary layer and allowed combustion heat to directly effect the aluminium.
Either that or the ring grooves aren't machined deep enough/rings too deep and there has been excessive friction on the cylinder walls.
Either way it looks pretty bad for a fairly fresh engine, old engines do tend to get coked up quicker than modern but that looks excessive even by those standards.
