I'm doing that think where I'm looking at loads of different car parts on ebay and getting nowhere...
I've got a small leak that looks like its coming from my water pump. Doesnt look too hard to change (1.1 Ford Valencia engine) and the car has done about 64k so I thought maybe I should just change as i'm trying to sort the cars temp out. The temp always gets quite hot in traffic and swings to cold so maybe its not acting at its best and since trying a different rad cap water started coming from the pump. This brings me to my point of choosing a water pump...
There seems to be two types of design and its the internals that are stopping me. The ones that I have found that look externally like the Cars existing pump and seem to have "fins" with openings like this... I have no idea if mine is the same as its still on the car... guessing it probably is.
The other type looks more like a wheel with no way of the water getting past the "fins" if you like... although non of these look externally the same. All right angles.
My thinking is will the bottom (right angle) one be better for movement of water compared to the first design??? I might be over thinking it but the one on the car now (might be the original) looks the same as the top one (curved pipe) and I'm wondering if its not as efficient and giving me a hot engine in traffic? I'm also aware this might make no difference but the leak its self might be giving me air in the system so I definitely want to sort it out. Most of these pumps are only £15.
