Not too much a a build thread as it doesn’t need too much doing at the moment other than a service and MOT. Just got it out of winter hibernation today. Owned for about 10 years now. Was a daily for a few years but decided it was too nice to use every day so it became another weekend toy. Done just over 97k was on 72k when I got it. It gets pampered and treated to genuine parts as much as possible. The 25th Anniversary was to celebrate 25 years since the MK1 golf was launched. There is a limited edition of every MK of Golf. Mine is one of 300 in black that is petrol. It was also available as diesel and in silver and red. Total of 1800 where produced. It differs from a normal GTI by the following, Body kit, side skirts and front and rear lower splitters 18 inch BBS RC wheels Blacked out headlights 180bhp version of the 1.8 20vt Smaller door mirrors Lower suspension Red callipers with bigger brakes from and rear Special interior, seats, silver trim, black headliner, sill trims I have kept it totally stock and it drives well even if it’s not one of the most loved versions of the Golf GTI.

I actualy like the Mk4, had a GT TDi 150 taken to 180. Really well put together and actually a better car than many would have you believe. That is a very nice example, un-chaved so unusual and better.

That is a very nice example, un-chaved so unusual and better. Yeah, you see online a lot of car journalists and stuff calling the mk4 GTI one of the worst GTIs, but the mk4 is one of the better put together generations of Golf, rarely rot, high quality everything, super nice interiors and the 1.8T is one of the better late VW engines- and they’re immensely tuneable! The 1.9 PD diesels pretty much made diesels accessible to everyone and made them a valid choice to normal people considering moving from petrol cars, and again, immensely tuneable and powerful in the right hands! I’ve a mk4 GT TDI with mods at 180bhp and I love it. It’s my daily and I’ve had it forever, 240k on it and every time I drive it, I still smile. I’ve never replaced it cause I can’t think of a better daily for what this one costs to run, fix and how much I enjoy it. Love this Anni, absolutely beautiful car! Alex

Great to see one still around. I've had a couple of MK4 GTI 20VT's in the past, the first a black Anni just like this (would love to know where it is now), which got replaced with a 'normal' late 180bhp GTI as my commute had changed and I was reluctant to put 20k a year on the Anni.
Within a couple of months of getting it we were off on a European road trip with it and it was faultless.
Did actually think about getting another before I bought the MK2, but couldn't find a reasonable enough mileage petrol version around.

Did a dull but necessary job, bit of preventative maintenance. MK4 Golf can suffer from rusty bottoms of the front wings. This is due to a build up of dirt etc. I had cleaned this out before but a long time ago and now the car lives in the garage and has been for the last 2.5 years it was on my mind to do again. So behind here is where it collects This is what had built up! Behind the dirt was the first signs of corrosion, This was treated and painted, Much better. Rebuilt with new bolts. Not very exciting but surprising how much was in there. This is what came out both sides A satisfying job that no one can see!

Lovely car - have always like the Anniversary Edition.
Was it a wheels off job to do the front arch liners? I have a 2004 Octavia vRS and thinking that may be good (hopefully) preventative maintenance!

I did completely remove the liner just moved it out the way.

That's one really tidy Golf you have there fella. I've always had a soft spot for the MK4's, I'd love one if I didn't end up in a deep underworld of rusty Fiesta's . Looks a very tidy example and wish you many more miles of happy motoring with her!
