i am thinking of buying a sealed lead acid battery, one thats 12v 100 amp hour. I plan to keep this in the house, and charge it with a smart charger.
I have read that a sealed battery is fine for indoors, and also the smart charger will cut off and not over charge the battery.
Is this all correct please? don't want to mess this up!
thanks

Just make sure the charger you get is suitable for SLA batteries and you should be fine.

just looking at buying the charger now, the ones i have seen on ebay all have internal fans, and i don't want that. Itll be charging in the house, the battery will run my cctv, and some leds etc. I have found this one at screwfix CLICK HERElooks ok but checking the spec it says a few things; • Do not leave charging batteries unattended for long periods or overnight. • This charger should not be used as a continuous DC power source or for any purposes other than those listed – any other use will invalidate warranty will it do what i want it to? thanks

I have just bought an 8 amp ring smart battery charger, i am more that sure this will power and charge the batter more that i need.
one thing i need to ask though, my battery had plugs in the side of it, like 4mm, if its sealed lead acid, whats the plugs for?
thanks!

To vent as it charges, they still need to breathe.

In car fitment with sealed batteries, they do indeed have a small hose to vent the battery gases out of the engine bay/interior The sealed term is a bit of a misnomer really, as it all it means is you can't access the battery cells to top them up

how long do your usual power cuts last for?
a few mins, or an hour? might be worth just getting a UPS Box, it will run off the mains but then continue to power in an outage.
I have one for my own house CCTV

oh, if i had known about a UPS box i would have got one of those! oh well, it works off 12v anyway, so my battery will do me now.
Frequency of power cuts is nearly zero, but we did have a few a few years ago, but its more of a bit of " fun " for me as my sister moved to texas, her husband is one of these "preppers" and i just do it to show him. This system is powering led lighting which is arduino controlled, and various other things too.
mk2cossie, ill drill a hole somewhere then and vent that pipe to the garage or outside or something.
thanks

The little 4mm plugs are normally for transport only and should be removed once battery is fitted in a car. Usually there is a sticker on the battery to advise this.
