Well, not quite yet.
Been hunting a piece of American pickup truck action for literally years...even got shafted by an eBayer when I 'bought' a mid-90s Ford Ranger only to be ghosted by the seller. I'd even bought parts.
So I might be tempting fate because I haven't picked this up yet, but took it for a drive last weekend, struck a deal, left and deposit and just this minute sorted insurance. Only got the pictures from the advert but here she is...
Shade under 100,000 miles
Current owner has only clocked up 6k in the last 4 years
Everything seems to work - electric mirrors and windows, cruise, overdrive...even the aircon
Bed is remarkably clean, it hardly looks worked (although I do intend to give the bed a coat of raptor paint anyway)
Hard tonneau over the bed in any case.
Badged as an R/T although I don't think it is...
I'd been looking at Silverados and Rams - for no other reason than I wanted a big, firebreathing, full fat Yank tank but I got to thinking...I already have a V8 in the CROWN Vic and I'll rarely use it for hauling loads - so maybe a Dakota (as the 'baby' Ram) wouldn't be so bad? I was worried that it would be a bit small and underpowered.
But then I saw it in the flesh. It's the extended cab not the crew, so it still retains a more than decent bed, and comes in at 18 feet long (an equivalent Ram would only be a foot longer). And at just short of 6ft wide it shouldn't be horrendously impractical to drive.
The 3.9 V6 puts out 175bhp, but could (in theory) still get 20+mpg on a run. The V8 wouldn't get close, and that has to be a consideration these days π¬
I'm picking her up in the morning...can't wait!
