Well, I thought I'd share this here as a bit of a progress thread. I've wanted one of these espaces for a long time, and now I have six of them. It's very odd but somehow pleasing although I'm sort of drowning in fibreglass now. I'll certainly be selling the bright red g reg one in the near future (not the one in the barn) but for now, here's my drug addiction. Two are mot'd, the red/black g reg and the maroon one. The other four are projects, the silver one is most likely just good for parts though. Observations: Odd driving position I'm in a greenhouse People stare What is it like to own one? Comfy. 10/10 Lumbar support. 1/10 Parts availability. 2/10 Handling. surprisinglygood/10 Speed. 7/10 quick enough to surprise and be almost comical Economy. 4/10 30-35 mpg max Ease of repair. 2/10 The French in their infinite wisdom put the PAS belt behind the cambelt. Genius. The clutch is also an engine out job realistically. Although no rust to fight with which is a welcome change. No idea when I'll update next. Probably when I sell the nice red and black one. If anyone knows of a quadra for sale either prefacelift mk1, facelift mk1 or mk2, I have money waiting immediately.

And this is the shelf for the smaller parts. I have several spare front bumpers, sets of headlights, panels, rear beam, all front suspension components and hubs glass and loads more. Absolutely out of control.

Always had a soft spot for these. They were just quirky enough and for some reason flew below the radar with a lot of people till the later models came out.

Fantastic. I’m particularly enjoying the maroon one. Marvellous

7 seats, completely overlooked and unassuming, completely unnecessary amounts of them, you sir are a man of fine taste! Kudos!

I've always had a soft spot for these too.
Would love one, but utterly cannot justify it.
Looking forward to more!

SIX!? Robin guys like you are the reason I can never find the cars I like, guys like you are hoarding them all! I'll certainly be selling the bright red g reg one in the near future Don't faff about, call me! it's about time we had a bit of a catch up and chat anyway. Besides, maybe we can do a deal with one of my half a dozen Carltons!

The first underside picture, which colour car is that, it looks immaculate, is it really low mileage to be so tidy?

That's very cool. One of the mags here had a feature on a boy that had a mk1 with I think half a million kms on it. He had it as a company car when he worked for Michelin but lived in the Netherlands, so it got ragged all over western Europe. IIRC one of his 'tricks' to keeping it going so long was never changing the oil, but regularly topping it up with the cheap stuff from Action - I guess our equivalent of Poundstretcher. I wouldn't recommend that, though.

That's unbelievable! What % or remaining mk1 espace's in the UK do you reckon you own? I think I prefer the red and black to the maroon though. Either way bonkers and brilliant in equal measure.

I would love to know but I have absolutely no idea to be honest. Although I'm pretty certain that I own the most mk1s in the UK, there might be another headcase in France somewhere.

will you be adding more Mk 2's to your collection ?

I’ve a phase 1 mk1. Would love a replacement headlamp & indicator unit - if you have a spare ( early) one? Mine are kinda glued/ taped together!
