1st part of our holidays and we are on the west coast of Ireland. That required a 300km trip and time to pull the Legacy out of the shed. Still does the job.  |

The Starlet is back on the road. I have been having a blast beating the hell out of it again.    The biggest thrill for me is taking my son out for a lengthy spin around the field and letting him take the wheel for a while. He managed his first spin on the hydraulic handbrake so at 7 has officially executed his first handbrake turn. I am very proud ;-) |

I've mentioned it previously but I've now reached a crossroads for the future of the Speedster.
We have bought a house here in Switzerland after close to 3 years of looking. This is great but it does mean really watching the pennies for the next 6 months or so until we are out the other side and in a new way of running.
So the Speedster is the only "luxury" that is still knocking about. It's still not exactly a luxury right this minute as the GR86 is still stuck at the dealership and as my wife is back in the office more we definitely need 2 cars.
The 86 situation will resolve itself in the next 6-10 weeks I believe but that's not exactly a good time to be selling sports cars. Although I have not committed to letting it go I have told myself to be prepared. A consequence of that talking to is that I have started to remove the wrap. I loved the colour but it's a bad DIY wrap and it's not going to help a sale if needed.
As I mentioned the paint is pretty terrible under there so I need to spruce up a few pieces. It gives me an excuse to play with another look in any case.

Unwrapped the Speedster over the course of last night and this morning. The tips of my fingers are killing me and I'm now left with an interesting looking nose on the car.   |

It was that prototype camo that this was reminding me of. I did a ghetto nose spray when the dip came off. This is always going to come back around. I'm going to do the prep properly this time. |

Tuesday is my day to split working with much kid manoeuvres. As I could not really get time between events to tackle anything seriously I sanded.....and sanded and sanded.  Much more still to do. On the topic of my close but oh so far GR86 I have begun modifications before it gets to me. Nothing major but I have asked the dealership to change the colour on the factory wheels from Black to Silver. I've also asked them to mount 4 of these as I don't want to have to get my tyres changed within a few weeks of getting the car.  |

 It's passable again. I'll need to go over it with a finer spray nozzle to get a uniform finish as you can see where the paint is a little thicker in some areas than others, but all that annoying sanding did pay off. I have a few more flourishes to add in order to finish off how I want it to look in this guise, but they will be easier to complete. Now, my friend with the garage has offered to buy it from me if I really must sell. The benefit and the downside of that is that he wants it back to standard. So, I have a buyer should I need to sell. The go faster parts will be easy to sell also if I take them off. Alternatively, I can hold on to them should I purchase another Speedster in future. I now just have to play a game of chicken with the house purchase expenses and see can I get out the other side with the Speedster still in the fleet. Oh, and just to add another level of complexity, I need a car with 4 seats in the next two weeks. I have been putting the lean on Toyota Switzerland to provide me with something and I gave them a deadline of tomorrow to come up with a solution. I have a feeling they will probably offer me some goodwill but in a different way. So, I have lined up a R53 Mini Cooper S as a loaner from my friend. However, if this turns out to be a good car, I'll likely swap the Irish Legacy out for the Mini. |

GR86 non-update update. My poker face must be good. I wrote a letter to Toyota and they have not given me any information, but they have given me a free car to drive while I wait.
It was pretty cool in that they offered me a Supra first, but I could not take it as I need 4 seats. They are dropping me off a RAV4 Hybrid next week.
I will take it!

If I were to wear noise cancelling headphones I think it would be ok.
The jump in revs and the “nnnyeaahhhh” note is just nauseating to me.
Also, this is a 2018 car and I’m looking at a centre console that looked rubbish in a RX350 15 years ago.

Very little done with the Speedster. All my free time that's not work or family is being taken up with house purchase shenanigans. Some news is coming through today that the GR86s will start to be delivered this Friday. Mine is ready to go. I'm very happy with my choice to have the wheels refurbished in silver and I have the Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 winter tires mounted. If I do get it before Friday the 14th then I'll be able to take it on a major break in run as I've a 2000km round trip planned to visit my uncle in France.    |

My GR86 is ready. I’m going to have to wait until next Wednesday 12th as my schedule is mad just before the kids have school holidays. Does mean that I have it to take on my road trip to France on the 13-18.

Fantastic result at last! Headed up to rally new zealand over the weekend and there were 5 or 6 yaris gr's in the parking lot: that probably represents 25% of NZ's allocation or something!

That's great and very much in the spirit of the Yaris that the NZ ownership fraternity are rally fans. Feel free to drop so NZ Rally pics in here. As an occasional rally competitor myself, I'm also keen to see the big boys and their vehicles in action. |
