Well that's it. The Speedster is sold and paid for so this chapter is closed. A wonderful car and I'd recommend one to anyone. I had a great 4.5 years with it.
I'll keep this thread going with the 86 as I'll continue to make some tweaks to it.
I have not mentioned it for a while but I was still using my 2.5 Subaru Legacy while in Ireland. The Christmas visit was it's last as a road vehicle as it's finally been called for it's test here in Switzerland and I've no intention of answering that call so it's been deregistered.
I should dispose of it but I might just add some proper offroad tyres to it and convert the rear to a flat floor so it can be used as a farm vehicle for my dad.
The Rally Starlet is also still kind of for sale but I've not been advertising that too hard.

Parts distribution at the moment. I had a free 90 mins in my day so popped out to collect a spare Speedster gearbox I had stored elsewhere as it's joining me on a trip to Nyon (just outside Geneva) tomorrow where I'm handing it over to Taam who's got a really cool supercharged Speedster.
On my way back I also collected my new used Milltek exhaust for the GR86 from Hans. He is selling his 86 in order to complete a deal for a R34 Skyline. It was only on his car for about 9 months and maximum 5000 kms so I'm happy to get that.
It turns out I asked one of the other 86 owners to add some Tein 20/20 lowering springs for me when he was putting in a big order from Blackhawk Racing in Japan. I need to collect those next week as well.
Bits in, bits out.

So the snowboard and ski gear have now been packed away: While I was doing that tidying away it was time to look through the parts I've been gathering over the winter. The Milltek has come out of storage and the first step will be to remove the bluing from the Titanium tips. I like the OEM+ look and this is too in your face for me.

I believe it's relatively easy. Just need to get a particular polish and it should come off. This in fact:

The kids are on holidays for 2 weeks and we're off to Ireland during the break. I've taken the opportunity to leave the 86 into the garage while I'm away to swap onto the summer tires but also they are refurbishing my wheels free of charge as the lacquer lifted after the previous work. My friend Yuu has kindly organized some time for me to use his lift so the 2024 tweaks will be completed on May 5th. Three things ready to go. Firstly, some Tein -20 springs. I'm a little worried about these as I've heard the car is very sensitive to geo changes. Easy enough to reverse in any case so I'll try them out. Then I have been researching intakes for way too long. The big problem seems to be that they almost exclusively result in a loss of power. I think I've found a solution that gives me more sound without power loss. These are replicas of the 86 Cup car intakes. I have 7 as we did a group buy here. Last thing up is the exhaust. A lot of elbow grease and sweat yesterday resulted in this. Much better than the blue in my opinion.

I collected the 86 when I got back from vacation. 4 shiny wheels FOC is a nice feeling. It's on the summer rubber now as well. When I was at the garage I learned that the sales guy had bought himself a Red 86 and we now have another member in the group. That puts us at 43 members now which is pretty cool. That brings us to yesterday and I headed over to my mate Yuu's unit which is 20 mins away on the other side of the lake. His family use it for storage for their restaurant business but crucially his uncle used to do some mechanic work and it has a lift, compressor and is stocked with tools. One of the other guys in the 86 group drove up from Bern to collect his snorkel which we decided to fit while we were at it. Besides the 3 86s, my mates Dave and Xavi came along in their respective ND MX5s to bring the serious mechanic know how (we needed that later for the front springs and the lack of adequate spring compressors!). It was all go, 5 guys working on 3 different cars for 5 hours. I did hog the lift for most of the afternoon. Snorkel Tein springs This is my favourite shot I have not had a chance to really drive it hard as I've been stuck to the desk today but it's breathing slightly louder (both on the way in and the way out) and it's slightly lower. Exactly what I wanted. I'll get an alignment done once the springs settle fully in a couple of weeks and then it's just driving for the rest of the year with the 86. That's not all though. An idea for something else to join the fleet is gaining momentum in my cranium.

So I had an idea. I'm trying to cover all bases in 3 cars because I have 3 parking spots for the foreseeable. I have my sports car and we have the family all weather load lugger. What I don't have is something I can take the roof off and seat 4 for summer cruising with the whole family. I'm keeping the budget for this low as I'm still clawing back a bad 2023 fiscal year but it also has to be interesting. So my search initially was 25+ years old. I saw a couple of MK1 Golf cabrios but before I went to view my eye was caught by a SN95 Mustang. I was specifically interested in this as it was an early car and still had the 5.0. Last Saturday I went to see it and was presented with this: It was about as expected cosmetically, a few dings but not too bad. The engine was a peach but oddly for me I didn't take a punt on it. At a minimum it needed all 4 discs, pads and tires (which I could live with) but it had a terrible shake through the steering and the gearbox was bit clunky. So the hunt goes on. Ideally I'd like a classic 4 seat convertible but I think my budget will allow me either a classic OR a 4 seater convertible.

Would an Audi 80 cabrio float your boat? I've been giving them a look but they have gone stratospheric (relatively speaking) over here in the past couple of years. For the longest time you could buy a tested one under 3k with the nicest being 6k. They all seem to be starting around 10k now and that's waaaaay outside my budget for this. The sensible option might be a 320 e46 cab with the small 6.
