Then there are also the Stepside and Fleetside beds. This is Chevy speak, and describes pretty well whats going on. Ford called them Flareside and Styleside, which doesnt describe it as well as the Chevy's do, IMO. So that makes mine pretty damn cool There, fixed that for you Hahaha... Thank you.

you'll have to remind us but aren't we talking something like 8" lower now (top of roof) ? James If I remember right, I lowered it somewhere in the 12 to 14" range... Something like that would be good for me, easier to get in and out of with my dodgy knees.

So these trucks were available in all the different bed styles and sizes, load capacity ( 1/2Ton, 3/4Ton, 1Ton), 2WD or 4WD, engine options 6cyl; or V8, and different trim options ( chrome or not ), etc. At some point I came across this one. don't know anything about it, except that it looks like it was sold as the doghouse & frame only ( as were used for school busses) The Marmon Herrington badge is there because its a 4X4, and another interesting thing is that the wheels are standardized Mil Spec ( like the bed attachments I talked about earlier) And here is a schoolbus. They also sold the panel van. And all of these were built & sold outside of the USA ( Argentina, maybe? )

Like the Boston Police panel van, surprisingly 'modern' shape.

This is what a 1960 Truck window crank looks like. I needed 2 new ones, but they are only available in chrome. So I brought those to the powder coaters to make them satin black ( together with my used inside door handles). What I didn't know was, that the chrome needs to be taken completely off, for the powder coating process. So they blasted them. Problem is, the potmetal these handles are made out of is much softer than the chrome. So by the time the chrome was gone, the handles were too. ( blasted right through them). OK, not a big problem. They are available new, and not that expensive. So its lucky it happened to these parts, and not something that cant be replaced. And the powder coater said he'd pay for the new ones. New ones ordered. To ( hopefully) eliminate the problem, I brought the new ones to a chrome shop to have them stripped. ( its just a simple matter of reversing the plating process). So that got them down to the nickel ( much softer than the chrome). It still gave them lots of problems ( having to re coat them several times). But instead of getting upset about it, they used it as a learning experience. I'm very impressed with their professionalism. In the end they got them right though. And I re assembled them with black knobs, instead of the white ones they came with. So that was a huge hassle ( mostly for the powder coaters), but I think the end result is worth it. I'll definitely bring them more stuff to coat in the future.

That was good of them, but also sensible, to see the dechroming as a learning process.
Looks very much tidy and part of the theme.
Another thing many will miss.

Thank you glenanderson. No, I haven't had it on the street yet. Just in and out of the garage, and in front of my house. I need to go buy some gas ( with a jerrycan), then I can start driving it. First impressions are are that it seems nice, and a lot quieter than it used to be. And I'm sure I'll run into some new car bugs, but I'll deal with those when I find them...

Thank you for all the nice words. Getting it done is really satisfying... Specially after seeing it deteriorate for all those years.

Well done!....it's turned out absolutely beautiful. But then, I wouldn't of expected anything less from yourself. The attention to detail on the interior is outstanding.
