Sorry for hijacking your topic but about this Kilmat stuff. does it soak water like a sponge or not (e.g. can I use it on the floor or is it not recommended). Further pro and cons? Thom What I'm looking for is some sort of Bitumen/ Tar like product in sheets or 1'X1' tiles, with the tar side having a layer of glue and the top side with a thin layer of aluminum. Like what I put in the Nuova. As long as water doesnt get under it, there shouldn't be any problems with the sheetmetal. I need to see what I bought last time. When I have that info, I'll post it here, and I'll decide then if I go for that product or the KillMat. If anybody else has questions/ suggestions on these kind of products, feel free to post them also...

I've just put some dodo mat down in my Fairlane, also used on my Astro 'camper' conversion. Exactly as you say, sticky rubber/bitumen stuff with foil backing e.g. ebay link although it looks like it might be a UK made version

Metal, it took some digging through old threads, but this is what the clever, non-douche 911 guy in Austin TX used, mixed in with a primer, brush painted on the coupe’s interior surfaces. He said it very much works. hytechsales.com/INSULATING-ADDITIVE--THERMACELS_p_18.htmlOnly a suggestion, John

Here’s the 911 thread, should link to the correct page (12 of current 44) for the thermal stuff. If you go to the main page of the website, you’ll see this stuff is used in exterior and exterior house paints. To ask the OP, Mr. Novak about the efficacy, you can either create a user account on Pelican Parts or find his website (he sells his own stuff for adding EFI to early 911’s. He references it later in the thread. In case anyone’s wondering, YES, the supply of rough but workable 911’s (and 912’s) for cool projects such of this is well and truly drying up, relative to even five years ago. Thank You for the effort of finding the correct page, the link works, here is a picture from his first post about that stuff: I wanted to comment on that early 911s topic. We have a programm on german tv about some experts who help people who stored plenty of "stuff", which they originally planned to make a fortune of, but failed, leaving their families with tons of cr#p, often causing storage costs rather than profits. Horders, messies, what ever You call them. One episode there was a guy who horded a lot of cars in an old farm estate. Amongst those cars two very early 911s. Infact one porsche 901, said to be car number 57 from production day 1, before peugeot won a law suite, which caused porsche to rename the 901 resulting in 911 and 912. Two cars, that would be scrapped decades earlier. But the production team (usually simply ordering big containers to get rid of the most stuff) made a contact with porsche company, who took interest in those two cars. They got them expected in stuttgart by their own experts and in order to fully restore them paid a tad more than 120.000€ for those two piles of rust! How much truth in a tv production You want to believe is up to You, but You started on porsche projects, If You want to see them, here is a youtube video with a summary of that episode, unfortunately only in german language, but just let the pictures tell the story.

Direct translations can be really funny sometimes... My German is a bit rusty (don't use it much these days), when I was a kid we'd go for summer holidays in Austria. Near Innsbruck. Later, I'd use that as a stopping point when I was looking for Fiat and Alfa parts in Italy. I bet it would come back to me after speaking it for a day or so, and understanding it is no problem...

As a side story to this - I used a thermal barrier paint on my car - again with silicone balls in the coating. It allegedly stops 600 degrees C coming through.
I coated my firewall and under the floors by my feet & the gearbox tunnel. Engine is approx 30mm from firewall (all panels are 3mm aluminium) gearbox approx 20mm and exhaust runs directly under my feet.
Car never gets hot inside and the bare (no carpet) panels only get warm to the touch even in summer. It was expensive but it does work.

Thanks grizz. Yeah, it's going quickly. Which means its coming home soon. I still have to get more done to the '32 before I'm ready for that, and do a major cleanup in the garage. It will be nice to see it all back together...
