Talk about thread from the dead!!!
Much has changed in the Minnesota Munky garage, but unfortunately things around the Neiner have stalled.
I went back to the guy offering to paint the car, essentially to firm up and sign up, but as I asked questions, the price went up.
Would the door sills inside be painted? No, that’s an extra $3k. Will the underside of the bonnet and engine lid be painted? No that’s an extra $3k, to the point where I was quickly looking at an estimate of $30k plus, with no guarantees that it would stop there.
So I didn’t sign up and got talking to a few more people.
I had a couple of leads and went to visit a guy at his place. Long story short, I have my name on his list, but need to wait 6months before he could start on it. So doing what any red blooded garage dweller would do… bought another project!
Knowing that Porsche parts are really a little out of my league, I started to look for something Iconic, with lots of spares and options and parts more pocket money of an engineer and not Elon Musk. So I ended up with this.
My love of Ghias started when I was 17 and saw this car.
I took these photos over 35 years ago and have kept them with me, even though I swapped continents and countries a number of times!
The day I saw the advert, I was supposed to be going to a wedding around 3pm. These photos were taken at 3:30pm and you have no idea the trouble I was in (not my wedding though…)
This was a couple of months ago, and we are slowly getting acquainted with each other.
So this is what it looked like, when I dragged it back to my new temporary bedroom. Well I told you I was in trouble!
