Best car I ever had was my 04 legacy estate, bought off a dealer who was about to auction it, so was cheap. It did 35mpg despite being a 2.5 petrol. I moved house with it, got over woodhead pass in the snow when everyone else was getting stuck, and it never once let me down. Traded it in for peanuts against a work van as I was desperate at the time, still miss the thing.

Really hard to decide on this. Best vs Favourite Often we judge against a current need, want, fashion etc. I would say if you do a true baseline āApples vs Applesā comparison the car that delivered best for me in 40 years of driving, owning and using, cars, still has to be Prozac the Berlingo. Prozac strikes again 1.4 petrol, always used as a van and 2 seater, cost me Ā£250.00 and a McDonalds breakfast for mate Martin iirc sold about 3 years later to Mickey for his son to use as a builders van with fresh MOT, full tank of fuel and almost new tyres for Ā£400.00 which was still less than anything he could find in the market. It was happy at 70mph and a bit more for passing on the motorway, light on fuel, carried some seriously challenging loads and loved being thrown hard into a roundabout. Only sold to get the bigger Ford Galaxy, a functional, boring tool that never excited me, but made itself at least Ā£5k on top of all costs while I had it. On the other hand, the S10 Chevy has to be a favourite as it was a bucket list car for 10 years because I had a very specific list, including the colour. This is an amazing truck, ZQ8 Factory special, versatile, capable, powerful, supremely comfortable, V6 sounds ace through the full Magnaflow system, and still not done 40k miles in its pampered life to date. All of that said, pretty much every car I ever owned ticked boxes, just not all the same or at the same time.

In terms of all my cars this one is the one we've kept the longest. I've taught my son to drive in it, we've been to Wales on numerous occasions, transported things on the roof. It's been very reliable... My dad said never buy French but this little car is perfect... BUT! I know it's not retro, so the best car, in terms of condition, history, feel good factor, reliability, was my first Escort. We did a holiday to Cornwall, over 700 miles. I miss this one, had to sell due to financial reasons.

Had nearly 50 vehicles so far (Mostly late 80s early 90s tat) and my 306 gti6 is my favourite by a mile. Such a good chassis and the gearbox was spot on, punch well above their weight on a twisty road. The 306 styling is holding up really well too, don't look too out of place on the roads now considering their age.

For me it's probably a toss up beween the mx5 and range rover, the Elan +2 drives superbly but the things like the pathetic heater make it a high days and bolidays car, the TR7V8 is great for hooning around in but a bit a bit noisy and harsh for a couple of weeks away in (mostly down to my modifications). The mx5 just does whatever you ask of it, drives great, reliable, cruises fine at 70 and comfortable with a decent heater.
The Range Rover is completely different, a bit like cruising around in a big comfy sofa, it drives far better than a 50 year old 4x4 design has any right to, I can fit just about anything I need to move in it, and the wife and kids like it so o complaining. only downside is 18mpg.

In absolute terms, because newer cars tend to be better equipped, more reliable and require less maintenance, plus I spent four years adjusting it to exactly my taste, my current XJR, but straight from the factory, allowing for period of manufacture, and given my longevity expectations, my 1981 BMW 735ise with an amazing specification for its time; electric seats all round, a proper climate control system, and the best Blaupunkt stereo available. It did let me down twice, in mainland Europe with a broken radiator top hose stub, and a couple of years later, blown head gasket, but had done 280,000 miles by then. It gave me years of towing racing cars to circuits, trailers grossly overloaded with buiding materials to France, and everything else I demanded. I gave it to son #2 with 18 years, and almost 400,000 miles behind it. The driver's seat covering had worn through, but there was absolutely nothing else wrong with it.

Best overall has to be my current daily, the E61 530d MSport. It cruises economically, carries or tows anything I want it to. It's comfy on long journeys, handles like a sports car on the twisties and looks great when polished up. Had it 5 years and at 122k it's nicely run-in.
Having said that my 1985 Nova SR was huge fun only surpassed by the Sunbeam Imp and Singer Chamois Sports. My Datsun 260Z is pretty good too!

Probably the best(and also favourite) was my Mk3 Granada Ghia, long since scrappedbut rare 2.9(12v not 24v Cosworth) with a manual 5 spd.
Recalling the Jaguar advert of space, grace and pace I'd lowered it, braided brakes & upgraded pads plus polybushed it could perform workhorse duties all day long, but when pressed could keep up with the faster ponies(one episode included a very swift crossing along the A66 constantly trading places with a porsche boxster!).
