I’ve decided to offer up my Civic for sale. It’s a 1999 (‘V’) 1.6ES 5spd Manual, Hatchback, with only 68,000 miles. Quite nicely spec'd with electric windows, mirrors, sunroof, leather, 6 CD disc-changer, remote locking and A/C.
This has been my daily driver for the last 2½ years, it’s been totally reliable and drives well, you could almost describe it as relatively sprightly with its 125hp SOHC VTEC motor (D16W4).
In a fit of enthusiasm when I bought it (less than 10k miles ago), I changed the cam-belt, water-pump, all drive belts (Gates), a coolant flush/change (with genuine Honda stuff!?), new thermostat, along with a full service (plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm, oil+filter, all filters and all fluids including brake, clutch and gearbox. I also fitted a new pair of front calipers, new Lambda sensors and a new offside rear ABS sensor. The A/C was also recharged and is working fine.
I’ve changed the oil+filter every year with Castrol Edge, and only ever used Shell V-Power fuel (out of habit I suppose, but especially now as its E5).
Bad points?
Well, the MoT is due mid-December 2021 and it will need a nearside rear ABS sensor as the dash light is on.
The check engine light is also on; this is due to a ‘catalyst efficiency’ code. Though this doesn’t affect running at all (it can be turned off for 20 miles or so...).
The front brake discs are getting low, pads are ok though.
The paintwork is patchy where a previous owner has tried touching up various areas with a rattle can (fairly badly!), couple of dings here and there also but no rot.
The top colour coat of the leather seats is peeling, and there is a wear patch on the driver’s sill carpet.
All electrics work, apart from the headlamp washers and the sunroof needs a couple of presses of the button to close.
*Now SOLD, thanks*.
