	Can't find the original thread I did on this so here's an update on how it's going. Still mostly in red oxide primer but running well. However recently it's been getting louder and the clattering from the exhaust suggested things weren't all OK back there.

	When I started this project I picked up an unused stainless exhaust on ebay for very much the right price. Looked well finished on the outside but doubts about the construction gradually surfaced. It's always been loud but it's a sports car after all. recently it's been popping and banging a lot. I know that coming off my drive it sometimes grounds on the camber of the road and worried I'd damaged it. Checking today, one of the two inlets from the original cast manifold had completely broken free along with the perforated tube going down into the silencer. Looking inside revealed what I was beginning to suspect.... There is absolutely nothing else inside it! So , took the whole lot off along with the factory cast manifold and fitted the 4 branch manifold and oval silencer from my SIMCA 1000 Rallye 2 that's currently in bits for some work..... smoother than ever without all the odd sound effects. Photos show before & after and state of 'bargain' stainless exhaust.

	Back in my IMP days, the STD silencer snapped right at the box/flange weld.. like this piccie. Quick trip to breakers liberated a non rusty/newish Granada back box. I cut the inpipe off and blanked that hole/cut a hole in the top and welded the stock neck on top... Back on the road for 30bob! *sounded loud + chromed tip Doing great works here, with all your cars m8 OVIMOR
	Knowledge is to know a Tomato is a 'fruit' - Wisdom, on the other hand, is knowing not to put it in a 'fruit salad'!

	Have been running it about with the 4 branch and Oval silencer from my Rallye 2 recently. Runs much better, quieter and smoother than with the previous exhaust, obviously needs some back pressure. Meanwhile I've welded the pipes back into the other exhaust and, after cutting the end off have filled it with what it never had from new.. some proper exhaust packing material.

	Has been reluctant to start from cold recently, turning over really slowly. Tried batteries from my other SIMCAs that work well on them... same problem. After checking starter motor connections etc ended up with the earth lead in the front 'boot' direct to the chassis rail. tried tightening bolt on to chassis... sheared off! Then noticed the copper strands inside earth lead were black. In haste looking for a replacement pinched the one off my Rallye 2 (currently in bit in the garage) ..I'll curse myself when I get that back up & running and am searching for an earth lead..!!! bolted it on to a better place on the structure and... Sorted..!! turns over faster and fires up straight away on the notoriously finnicky twin Solex 35PHH carbs which seem to struggle if the engine just wheezes over.

	Neat! Do you have bits and pieces for making up earth leads and other electrical wiring? Not a tricky job at all when you've got a few bits, and it's nice to have new copper. For earth leads I got a set of hydraulic crimpers. Not amazingly cheap, but incredibly useful.

	Not posted on this recently but it's running great now and I've finally painted it. Not to the 'originality freaks' taste but it's mine and I'm satisfied with the end result. Exhaust problem sorted even got it trimmed inside with the best bits from this and the LHD one we scrapped. Next job is to tidy up the wiring under the dash. biturbo... yes I've got all the necessary bits, might refit the original 8 track player as I've found some tapes to fit.

	Have now got it back on a full set of Revolution wheels. Minilites on rear in previous photos were spares from one of my track cars fitted while I got some tyres on the revos.

	79 Cord... Never thought the original maroon ish colour suited the lines of the car. Got fed up with people telling me 'keep it original' or suggesting I left it sort of 'rat look' in the mixture of original paint and red oxide primer it's run about in since 2018 so tried this... I'm quite pleased with it. The light green I was going to do it in was eventually used on my SIMCA powered Ransomes crawler tractor project, photo below.

Brighter green certainly would have been an eye searing distraction from the lines of the car, exactly why I wouldn't choose a 2-tone for such a pretty shape, regardless of colour. Though you do now make me wonder about a dark medium green with orange so it's shape isn't lost in the darkness! Could almost imagine that on a '50's Mercury now. Got to blind the cautious sheep SUV driver's properly.

	Not really a fan of light green with orange as a color combination. But the dark green and orange works really well...
