Some more progress on the Spitfire: the interior has been completely stripped, and the bootlid and fuel tank have been removed ready for taking the body off. All but one of the bolts have come free, the other appears to have seized in the tube that runs through the chassis so it's sat in penetrating fluid ready to be heated up and hopefully knocked through!
I think with some trimming of the gearbox and sump, and massaging of the chassis brace in the gearbox tunnel, that the engine should be able to sit low enough to get away with the standard bonnet - but until the body can come off, it's anyone's guess really.
