Hi all, can anyone in the know advise me please...
I have an correctly registered 1980s kit car that is currently SORN ( it’s a non Q plate) .
I’m in the process of swapping the engine 3.5 rover V8 to a 3.9 rover V8. ( using the original LT77 gearbox still).
I've been reading some of the posts on here and it looks like I might have to provide proof of the ‘new’ V8s origin when I notify the change on the v5c.
I bought the replacement engine as ‘good used’ back in early 1990s and it has sat in the garage since waiting for me to get around to the swap.
I have a signed and dated receipt from the seller (eBay) but nothing more than that.
My question is, next year I can apply for historic vehicle status and the mot exemption; is it better to submit the change now or after the car is recognised as a historic vehicle? ( got the impression I don’t need to provide evidence for the latter, but would automatically lose the no mot status, which I don’t mind as I prefer the reassurance of an MOT anyway).
Thanks in advance for any advice/clarity.
