Pulling apart an engine that has been sat in a garage for over 30 years, at some time prior to that one of the plugs had a repair insert fitted, which is now seized onto the plug. Plug now broken, so drilling it out of the insert is the next step, but would be handy to know what the insert is if it all goes even more pear shaped Ps the straight lines are vice grip Mark's, another reason sourcing a replacement would be preferable Ttfn Glenn

No idea where it came from but have you tried heating it up to get it off?

Can you make out any of the lettering?

Can you make out any of the lettering? Seems to say "made in" so I'm going to guess the next work is England, or Britain? Oh, I zoomed in, I think it says made in Japan.

Further investigation reveals the plain section is part of the broken plug, the insert is just the threaded section. So a coarse tapered thread on the outside with the fine plug thread inside Thanks everyone but the search continues Ttfn Glenn

looks like a timesert or similar, though I thought they tended to have the same thread pitch externally so that the internal threads push the material out to bite into the parent material with the square/oval fitting tool.
what is the plug thread and outer thread of the insert?

The inner is a 12mm plug thread, the outer looks almost like 1/2 bsp or similar whitworth/unc Ttfn Glenn

I used to sell this in the 90s as a spark plug repair kit, might still have one?

It will come in handy even if you never use it
