I've just looked at 2 1960s Hillman Minx and was hoping for some enlightenment:
The 1962 1600cc had the indicator stalk nice and close to the steering wheel, easy access, but not self cancelling. Column shift manual.
The 1966 had the indicator stalk miles beneath the steering wheel, so you had to take your hand off to indicate. Also not self cancelling. Floor shift manual.
Does anyone know why the later car might have a worse indicator stalk position? Is it to do with different steering columns or surrounds for column vs floor shift? Can the position of the later car be improved? Should they self cancel?
