Morning all, now I know it isn't retro at all but I just want to pick some brains, I want to know what sort of job it is to replace the exhaust manifold on a 2009 civic diesel, is it something that can be undertaken on the drive with a set of ramps and a jack and is it an ok job or a pain in the . Thanks Bryan

Take the engine cover off and see what the access is like. Old civics had that on the side of engine next to the slam panel. If that's the case it should be doable unless the fixings snap upon removal.

If it's on the front of the engine do that thing where you take off more than you have to.
I worked as a mechanic for 7 years and it's one of those things you learn.
Even if it seems a bit mad to take off unrelated components you're thankful for the access later on.
If it's on the front of the engine take off the bumper and the radiators and get yourself some nice straight forward access. That way, when it comes to checking the mounting surface on the head and access for all the tools it is totally straight forward. Also wiggling an awkward shaped manifold in and out a small gap at the bottom of the engine bay can be a nightmare.

It's on the back of the engine and pretty well buried, not a job I'd relish on my back and I used to work on marine diesels.

Thanks for the info, it's not that bad and is barely audible when the engines running so I think I'll leave it until it fails an mot or gets really bad because I don't really fancy rolling round on my back changing it.
