In bright sunlight the top of my dashboard reflects in the windscreen - I was set to paint it mat-black but was advised that people who rally deal with the problem by using a custom made covering which can be trimmed to size/shape and doesn't have to be permanently fixed. Does anyone know of such a product? and where to get it? Advice appreciated . . .

You can flock your dashboard but a simpler solution would be to lay a piece of fabric on top of it.
Buy some alcantara from ebay.

Depending on which car You can try ebay.com.
Especially in the southern states dashboards often suffer from massive sunlight cracking, so lots of "carpetry" is offered over there for various models.

Speaker felt/cloth does the trick too, some is even sticky-backed if you want to stick it to the dash rather than tuck the edges in or similar.

Polarised sunnies. Can be had pretty cheap. Cuts the vast majority of reflections of any kind due to the way light organises itself when reflecting. Great for cutting glare from sun on a wet road too. Best 'mod' I ever made to my Nissan.

Previous owner of my R53 covered the top section of the dash with alcantara. Does a good job of stopping glare/reflections although the glue has started to lift in a few places now so will need to be redone at some point.
