I've been offered a new battery, 100ah, 920cca, I'm running an e39 525i which, I believe, should have something like 80 / 90ah and about 800(ish)cca, (Different forums and websites quote different sizes,) If I fitted the more powerful battery am I likely to damage anything ??

No.
The starter will draw what it always has, so the wiring will be fine. You'll just have more capacity than before. Ideal if you leave it sitting for a while or do lots of short winter trips.

probably an 019 sized case, thats what I have on my E34, there is a fair variance in capacities and price, just get the biggest one with longest warranty you can afford.
