Today this beautiful beige Sierra saw daylight for the first time in around 20 years. I started by dropping some penetrating oil into the bores and to my surprise it was not even slightly seized. I have also managed to remove the rocker cover and clean the spray bar. So far I have worked in the car for one afternoon and have had it turning over on the key. The original fuel lines are so brittle that they fall to pieces at a touch. Once I replace the lines I should be able to hear a trusty pinto spark into life. Once the engine shows signs of life an oil and filter change and a timing belt kit will be top of the list.

Thanks guys ,
From what I’ve been told the previous owner parked the car and lent the alternator and plugs to a friend. Some friend as about 20 years on and it’s still sitting there with no alternator or plugs.
I have fitted an alternator, plugs and a battery and now it’s turning over under its own steam. I removed the brittle fuel lines and turned the car over to see the condition of the fuel and it’s quite tarnished but only dregs in the tank thankfully
Fingers crossed tomorrow it will run with new lines and fresh fuel

What a time capsule! Looks in remarkably good shape too. Can't wait to see it running on the road again

Wow that takes me back! My Dad used to hire Sierras to take me and my brother to Boarding School as he didn't have a car. Had the first one on the hire fleet - a 1.6 L - none of this 2 litre GL extravagance! Looking forward to seeing how this one progresses. Bookmarked!

What a truly joyous blast from the past!!!
As a child of the 80's/90's Sierra's were always there...
A Sierra is more eye-opening than a Koenigsegg in my eyes!! Nostalgia can play a big part in what we hold dear!!
Let us hope more Sierra's (et al) get discovered and get resurrected!!

That looks lovely and intact. Put down one day and never picked up again.
A gl with no rear wiper and keep fit windows in the front though? I had a 1.8gl and it defo had both. Were they options in some way?

Brilliant!
My first "real" car in 1986 was a 1.6L Sierra - what I would give to still have it now.

Were they options in some way? I’m not entirely sure about that myself my three door L has a rear wiper so maybe they were options. It’s also a 4 speed which I wasn’t expecting either as I assumed the 2 litre would have a 5 speed as standard.

Making steady progress with the GL New timing belt , water pump and thermostat & housing. Oil and filter and a coolant flush. New fuel filter and lines. And a quick clean around in the carb Really impressed with how smooth the 2.0 is idling. Now onto the brakes and then cleaning can commence.
