	After further inspection on what started as a suspected leak from the drive shaft seal - I now believe this is more likely to be coming from or rather falling from the brake booster/servo. Looking at the state of it, the underside is pretty much melting from the liquid that has been dripping from it. I think this means that both the brake booster/servo will need replacing and the master cyclinder which I understand from searching older threads is likely to be the real culprit of the two if there is liquid coming out? Maybe someone can confirm that for me or what I should be inspecting on the master cylinder to see if there is anything wrong with it. The brake booster does not need inspecting, this is well and truly unhealthy whether it is operational or not, I would suggest that it is still operational as I read that it would hiss if faulty due to vacuum failure and the brake pedal would be unreasonably stiff which it is not doing either of these. In any case at the moment I am looking to replace both the master cyclnder and the brake booster/servo. I have the part number for the brake booster/servo: FINIS = 1629400 - PART NO = 84FB 2005B2 B I have a link to all the components that make up the brake master cylinder : www.fordopedia.org/parts-catalog/fiesta-mk1/E1.10 So far I have not had any luck finding these components new or in great condition second hand. Is there a retrofit option that will just bolt in that anyone knows of? Thanks

	to test the servo pump it something like 15 times with the engine off, press on the brake pedal and start the engine while keeping a constant force on the brake pedal, in the pedal drops a little once the engine is running the servo is working.

	Cheers both, I will test the servo later and see what it is doing - I believe it is operational still I just think wherever the leak is coming from it has perished the outside of the servo to quite some extent. The damage is directly under where the master cyclinder meets the servo so not really visible from topside. Could have been leaking for years looking at the state of it.

	It's not just been over filled at some point has it? Brake fluid will take the paint off where it has leaked. Unless the car is losing brake fluid I cant see there being a leak. More of a cosmetic issue you think?

	Had forgotten I posted this or that this was even an issue, no signs of further leaking after cleaning it all up but a year later and it has lost enough fluid to need topping up again. Must be a very minor leak. Will start looking for a complete unit booster/servo/master cylinder. If anyone comes across one and has the time please post a link on here

	Hi, Is the servo/master cylinder wet again? If yes then proceed to find a replacement. How worn are the brake pads? As the pads wear the fluid level drops and replacing the pads pushes the fluid level back up. I've lost count of the times people keep topping up the master and then when they finally get around to changing the pads all the new fluid gets pushed out. Colin

	The servo should be ok, can you not just change the cylinder, is the part number on that red band around the middle?

	colnerov - pads are fine but I will need to bare this in mind should I change them in the near future and I fix the leak. gtviva - I must get a better photo up. I can't see any physical dampness anywhere other than under the car but the servo is in an absolute state where it looks as though brake fluid has eaten away at the paint. From underneath I can't see much of anything as there's other bits in the way. I am now thinking that it is likely the join between master cylinder and the servo? Would that make sense? Never needed to replace one of these before so not really sure what I am looking at.

	What usually happens is the master cyl leaks and the fluid drains down the front face of the servo, the servo will need a coat of paint but as long as it isn't holed or weakened by the rust is will be fine. To replace the master cyl it should just be a matter of undoing the pipes, then the 2 fixings to the servo and pulling the cylinder off. Make sure you get proper brake pipe spanner in the correct size and go carefully undoing them, if you round one of the pipe fittings you will have a whole load more work to do.

If the seals/bore/piston are damaged it will leak into the body of the servo. That isn't intended to be fluid tight, so some of the leak will find its way out. You buy a replacement cylinder, remove the old one, clean the fluid out of the servo, fit the new cylinder and move on.
